    Last years thread

New route it seems this year. Starts on Parnell St, heads out of town by Davis Rd, onto the waterford rd, out to Ferryhouse (Bulmers) roundabout, right turn over St. Thomas Bridge, right turn back into Clonmel via Colville rd, past the loretto Convent school straight through roundabout, past CTI School into the old Bridge, head out to the rounabout on the Dungarven Rd, right turn past the Presentation Convent School to the lights, right turn down through Irishtown and finishes at the west Gate.

If I hear of any changes I'll let you all know. Great 10k folks and a great course. :)

How flat / hilly is the new course?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,533 ✭✭✭iceage

Relatively flat, only over the St Thomas bridge and Pres Bridge, a few rises on the back leg, on the colville rd, between the Old Bridge and the Dungarvan roundabout but really nothing you would call hilly.

My Runkeeper Pro reackons its a bit longer than 6 miles, as I say if I hear of any alterations I'll let you all know.

Planning to make this my next outing after a disappointing run in the GIR last weekend.

There is news that Superman will be running the Clonmel 10K in aid of Cystic Fibrosis. He is asking all Super heroes and others to come along and help make this a real fun run and run is fancy dress. :)

As well as all the other walkers/runners attending the Annerville 10K Superman is trying to make this a real Fun run this year, he's asking for as many people as possible to dress up in fancy dress costume such as heros, nurses, doctors, chefs, 70's Disco dancers etc, its all in aid of Cystic Fibrosis guys and a great cause.

    @ iceage

How do you enter this bad boy??

Found a couple google searches but not much help and I dont see it on runireland...

Any requirements such as one day licences or anything? Can entry be done on the day?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,533 ✭✭✭iceage

Hi Fazz, yeah entry can take place on the day. Not sure where your based or if you know Clonmel but registration takes place at the Old Mall (the Old Tech building opposite Kickham Brks) in Clonmel. The first 300 entrants will receive a specially designed T Shirt as well and entry is still €10, if you ask me thats a bargain :)

Registration starts at 10am Sunday morning in the main hall of the Vocational School (The Mall as its known, throught the front gates, through the front doors, hall is on your right as you enter).

The 10k starts at 2pm outside the front of the Mall building. Great value at only €10 and a specially designed T shirt to the first 300 entrants.

I've been told that there will be a water station at Bernie Macs Shop in the Old Bridge. This is towards the end of the back leg of the route. The way the weathers looking it could possibly be a damp one. For first timers if you hydrate well the day before the run you should be fine, its a handy route and the weather appears to be cooler this weekend compared to last year. :)

    hi there
i have ran a few 10ks recently all around the 1 hour 6min mark, do you think this run would be suitable for me, and also can you register on line as i live 1 1/2 hours away so i'd be travelling down to clonmel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,533 ✭✭✭iceage

Hi pmgalles, thats exactly my first Bulmers 10K time! I reckon you could happily do the same or better, the course is quite level. Any of the small inclines are over quite short distances but nothing to be alarmed by, the first Bulmers 10K had a wicked hill in it 3 years ago but its all pretty plain sailing now.

I don't believe there is online registration my friend. Race is at 2pm and registration starts at 10am.....plenty of time to get down here and not have to get up at the crack of dawn :) best of luck if you do decide to attend, it should be a great day (hopefully the weather is someway reasonable) for it plenty of interest and there is the added bonus of some fancy dress runners as well!

    hi iceage

The 10K last year I think had the largest numbers, can't give you exact numbers but definately there was over 300 ruuners because I was at the back! :D

Registration began at 10am and entrants are steadily signing up all morning. Wind has picked up a wee bit, and there is rain forecast people..but we might just get away with it! Don't let a little bit of drizzle put you off though!

New flash!! Is it a bird?...Is it a plane?...No its Superman! Reliably told that the man himself will be at the Mall for about 1.30pm.

Blessed with the weather today, the rain held off. Bit gusty in places on the course but it all went well I reckon, happy with my run. Just got to wait for the results...dozy here forgot to start his watch AND completely missed the clock on the finish line! :P

Im not an expert but I thought todays race was really well run...the course was well marked out, there were loads of stewards and although the roads were not closed they kept the cars well away especially on the section of road with no footpaths. It was fairly gusty but I enjoyed the race although I wasnt saying that at the 8km mark ...Nice T Shirt too.

Bit of a pity about the wind, kept times down a bit,

Puts Clonmel back on the Map for a venue to head for and goes to prove that the Half Marathon blunder last year was not the usual race organization by Clonmel AC.
    They got Blasted for it,

    So credit is DUE Today

All in All a very well run Race, and all for e10,

    Well done lads
