Hey, I have a 2004 1.6 Petrol, Toyota Avensis coming up to 60K miles.
Just wondering if it is a timing belt or chain. Think it's a belt but just want to make sure?
    Thanks for the help!

    Since we're at it, a 03 Corsa, 1.2

Autodata says its a chain, so maintenance free??

Yes. Correct servicing is vital though as the tensioners can give trouble on these.

    Ta.

Sister in law's car is one of these with 80K on the clock. She gets it serviced regularly but I wouldn't know if they did the tensioners. How regularly should they be replaced

In theory then should last as long as the belt but in practice it isn't the case.

The tensioner should be in good shape as long as there is no excessive noise from the chain/engine.
