iPhone 3g touch screen question

    Hopefully a simple question.

My wife dropped her 3g & the glass screen came off - it was still attached by the cable, but when we held it back on, the screen was unresponsive, ie, you couldn't slide the unlock bar.

Lifted the screen off again & it came away totally so I guess the cable was probably banjaxxed after the fall.

But here's the question - when i touch the actual LCD screen itself, the slide bar still doesn't work & I'm wondering should it, or does it need the top glass screen in place to work.

Only reason I ask is that I'll buy a new glass screen if thats all it is, but dont want to spend the cash if the LCD is knackered - should the bar slide if you touch the LCD directly ?

No I don't think it should work. AFAIK touch screens work by some technology that's housed between the LCD and glass to recognise touch response.

Here's a video from 'phonedog' that explains it more. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEiFvn-hV7s
