Membership Country Vs Dublin

My mebership for a year is 830 quid. this include GUI and 100 on my card. My club is 7th best inland course as per the 2010 Golf World poll
i find it crazy that far inferior clubs in dublin such as South County, Dublin City, Slade Valley, Dunmurray Spring, Hollywood lakes, Delganey charge almost double what i'm paying for a far better course.
even last night Mount Jiliet were offering membership for 2,300. thats a top course and it would seem thats only an average price to pay in dublin.

i suppose my question is why is it so expensive for membership in dublin?

out of curiosity, where are you a member?

its simple supply and demand I think.

Is there a point to this thread other than you gloating? YG has answered your question fully btw.

I think its based on the following:
    • majority of the population lives in the greater Dublin area
    • people, on average, earn more in dublin
    • you have to pay higher wages in dublin too (eg to greenkeepers etc.)
    • land costs more in dublin
    all boils down to S&D

Nice pop at a lot of clubs there. Nice post. It is all down to the fact that it is Dublin and you pay more for everything in Dublin. As you have named the inferior clubs above it would be nice to see what course you are comparing them to.

what am i gloating about, i genuinely curious as to why a club in dublin charges 3-4 time more than a club 50 miles down the road.

again genuinely not having a pop at any course those were the course's i feel aren't great in term of up keep and course lay out but have high enough membership fee, but lets get real courses are better than others, its a fact of golf. i'm not saving your feeling if your a member of one of the afor mentioned.

Because they can, or more accurately, could. Simple supply and demand along with higher costs of pretty much everything the closer to Dublin you get.

FWIW, new membership in Slade Valley is currently €990, including €150 bar levy, and no joining fee, so not really double the Carlow fee. Existing members' sub is higher alright :(

You're from Carlow, and you think Dunmurray Springs is in Dublin???!!! Jesus wept!

South County's actually in Wicklow too, by the way (at least, some of it is), but I don't expect you'd know that...

As previously mentioned it's simple economics, in many parts of Dublin you will still pay 400k upwards for a house, you could buy half of Co. Carlow for that :p

You need a geography lesson too it seems
