Just wondering if Ireland are likely to have any women competing in the women's road race in London. Michelle Geoghegan in with a shout? I can't find the UCI nations ranking for the women's event.
In terms of the men's road race, if the qualification rankings remained the same at the close of the 2011 season then Ireland will have a quota of 4 riders for the men's road race....Pretty cool, I think! I'm not sure if we will qualify any riders for the time-trial though.
Also, can anyone update me on our mountain-bikers...how are they performing?
In terms of track cycling, Martyn Irvine is looking great to claim his ticket to London.
Thanks in advance for your info!

We have qualified 2 tandems for the para's!

For the Olympics I think its nation rankings for the RR. in the men we are 17th (last time I looked). With no riders doing UCI races for the ladies I expect we wont get any ladies there unless we pick up some points in UCI ranked events.

We were 17th at the end of the 2010 UCI World Tour Rankings but in the current 2011 rankings we are 11th.

What about Caroline Ryan or the womens track team?

Dan was 3rd to contador in the Catalunya race and that jumped us up to 11th. I think its 4 riders if we end the season in this position..

If the lads get a few good results and we finish in the top 10 then the team will be the pros (4) with Shaungil, lumen, dirk and a fight out between Robfowl, LucanBAX and Beasty for the final 2 places :D

Team GB track squad have first call on my services - I need to have a word with them, as they keep bringing back that old fella, Queally. If he gets into their team, I'll be happy to opt for Ireland ....

Caroline Ryan is a great competitor and has been making great strides in the individual pursuit (9th at World Champs/ 4th at World Cup in Cali). Unfortunately, this event is not on the programme for 2012 so she will be relying on the team pursuit to book her ticket. The girls are improving all the time, but they may run out of time to pick up enough qualifying points. I'm sure though that further improvements will be made in the coming season.

I can't find any information on the qualification for the road time trial events. The qualification system for the time trial will be based on the UCI Time Trial Nations Rank but I can't find the ranking for this on the UCI website. Also, the top 10 from this years World Champs qualify automatically. Has David McCann got a shout of qualifying?

Thanks for the link, McCann's qualifying chance depends on his performance at the Worlds this year as Ireland will not have a high ranking on the time trial list.

There will be no mountain bikers from Ireland at the Olympics (unless something truely crazy happens and Ireland gets a female in - based on their ranking and being a wild card).

Yes, I was viewing the UCI nations ranking and its not a pretty sight for our mountain bikers (currently ranked in the 40s, so no chance of qualifying). It's a shame as in the recent past we have sent mountain-bikers both male and female to the Games (Robin Seymour, Jenny McCauley, Tarja Owens, Martin Earley, Alastair Martin). I think this will be the first time since mountain-biking was introduced to the Olympic programme in Atlanta that we will not have any riders.

Yeah - it is the first time.

In the past, Ireland was really clever about the qualification process and secured rides each time. There was no HP process in place since Beijing. There looks to be some movement now with requests for applications for some off-road management: http://www.cyclingireland.ie/Home/News/Off-Road-Asst-Manager-Required.aspx

Maybe Rio? But Rio starts NOW!

It's a shame there are no UCI points available for NRC races in the US. Our double national champion, Olivia Dillon has to be our best female competitor right now.
