Just wondering what is the normal rule in relation to playing the medal course on Saturday and playing in the competition on Sunday, its allowed at the club I play but some say you have to play off different tee's?

Is the same Medal Competition played on both Saturday and Sunday ?

If not, then Saturday play and practice is fully open. I would also be very surprised if the Medal Tees were put out on Saturday if the competition was not being played on that day.

Courses normally ask (but may not enforce via local rule) that members play of yellow tees when not in competition, so in this case you should be using these tees for your Saturday practise.

Surely the pin positions and greens make alot more difference than a few tee positions? If courses don't allow you to play from the competition tees on a Sat before the Sun competition then surely they shouldn't allow you to put out on the greens.
Generally do courses that have the weekend competition playable on either a Sat or Sun allow you to re-enter the competition? Say if you play on a Sat and have a nightmare round, can you re-enter and play on a Sun. Or say you play on a Sat and the day is atrocious weather wise but picks up nicely on the Sun giving alot more favorable playing conditions. Suppose it opens the possibility of the same person winning 1st and 2nd place but presume they'd be cut accordingly.

If the competition begins Saturday you can't play/practice on course at all prior to your round if you're entered to play Sunday.

As far as weather goes, you take your chances.

Well I asked the Captain because I thought you weren't allowed but he said they clarified it a few years ago and you can play freindly game on Saturday and play in the competition on Sunday.

I did a quick search on rules last week and it said that pratice can be allowed by the committee based on:
Note: The Committee may, in the conditions of a competition (Rule 33-1), prohibit practice on the competition course on any day of a match-play competition or permit practice on the competition course or part of the course (Rule 33-2c) on any day of or between rounds of a stroke-play competition.

But when you look at rule 33-2c it states:
    • c. Practice Ground
Where there is no practice ground available outside the area of a competition course, the Committee should establish the area on which players may practice on any day of a competition, if it is practicable to do so. On any day of a stroke play competition, the Committee should not normally permit practice on or to a putting green or from a hazard of the competition course.

So it says it should not normally but doesn't say its not allowed to permit practice, we used to have a practice area a good few years ago but not anymore?

That's very interesting, I knew you couldn't go out and play a few holes practice before your tee time on the day of competition so makes sense if the competition is played over two days that you can't practice on Sat on the competition set up. However I wonder how well regulated this is and if the general golfing population are aware. Is there an official rule number that it relates to?
I recently joined a club and the weekend competition is played on both the Sat or Sun. I'm not aware if you're permitted to re-enter the competition but I often see the same names on the members tee-times on both the Sat and Sun. Now I don't know if the players enter the competition at all or whether they enter it on Sat and use the Sun outing as a practice session. Either way it's a bit restrictive that if you want to play your competition golf on a Sun that you can't venture onto the course on a Sat for a few sociable or practice holes. I can understand the reasoning but somehow can't see many people abiding with it.
