ive got a quote for a classic policy on my charmant with aviva but they want me to produce an engineers report and furthermore a confirmation of the cars value. they suggested that i bring it to a main dealer to which i asked how in the name of god a main dealer could possibly put a value on a 26 year old car? anybody else have this problem or a solution, its not like the market is flooded with similar cars i can compare to!

I used to use a guy in Glenageary called Andy Penston for engineers reports, no idea whether he's still there. Re the valuation, it's up to Aviva what they'll accept. Ask them would they take a valuation from a classic car club?

Did you get any other quotes from other companies? Surely an engineers report would cost you more than a full years classic insurance on your car - stuff Aviva :)

No engineers report with Axa - no valuation required either unless you want an 'agreed' valuation in case of a claim.
