01 Focus auto box problem

    Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience with ford auto boxes? My sisters focus (1.6) has a gearbox problem.
The car is driving and changing through all the gears ok but when you try to gently accelerate from say 50mph to 60mph it jerks and kind of shudders while accelerating. If you floor the pedal, it will drop a gear and pull away fine.

I've no experience of them, the only check I did was for oil and the level is fine.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks :)

how does the gearbox oil look like, red colour or more towards black?

Are you sure it's not a fuel or ignition problem?

Gearbox oil looks clean and red.

It only seems to happen at about 50mph when accelerating slowly, at lower speeds and in lower gears there are no problems so didn't think it was an engine problem.

My money would be on fuel or ignition rather than the box. Can't say which though.

Sounds to me like the box is working fine, I'd be thinking a coil or plug problem.
