Hey there, so we have decided to get married in Galway. I'm not originally from there, but we met there and both lived there for years so it seems like home :) At the minute we are thinking of the Meyrick- I love how central it is and I think it has real old school glamor feel to it BUT I've never been to a wedding there. Anyone have any experiences of it good or bad? Our second choice is the Radisson and then I have also heard good things about the Salthill Hotel. Any opinions or advice would be gratefully appreciated :)

I just got married in the Galway Bay Hotel on Sunday and I seriously cannot recommend it enough. You'd honestly swear we were the first wedding they'd ever had... ever member of staff seemed genuinely excited for us from check in onwards. They went out of their way to ensure we didn't bump into eachother the morning of the wedding too. Our room had a minimum of 70 but we only had 60 but the way they laid it out gave the impression that it was packed and it was really lovely and intimate.

A lot of our wedding party travelled from England and so also stayed in the hotel for a couple of nights... every one of them were absolutely blown away by the level of service. The staff were absolutely amazing. NOT only that but the rooms are everything you want and the scenery is unreal... the food was gorgeous and kept coming. From the moment we decided to book with them I knew it was the right choice... nothing has been too much or too little. Even down to the fact that we left a gift behind in the bridal suite :o and they put it straight in the post for us.

    CANNOT recommend them enough! :D

I shot a wedding in the Galway Bay hotel last Saturday and I echo Helen's comments. The wedding co-ordinator I was dealing with was fantastic and really seemed to have the couples best interests at heart.

She was amazing... I dunno but I just felt 'she's on our side'. At one point somebody suggested we wouldn't have time to take pics on the beach and I just said 'oh but I really want them' and that was it, no arguing or anything, everyone came over with a smile on their faces, even though I used to work in hotels and KNOW this must have really put them out.

I'm in same boat as OP, not originally from Galway but lived here for almost 15 years now (no getting rid of me!) and am starting to lean towards getting wed here.

Galway Bay hotel sounds good, and its a nice location. Helen, would you mind giving me a rough ball park figure on price per head or what was included etc.?

Hi Detoxkid. We got married in the Meyrick three years ago this July and I have to say I'm delighted we chose them :)
Having been to MANY weddings in various hotels in the city, I wanted to choose someplace different and had always loved the location and look of this hotel. The wedding organiser, Samantha at the time, was amazing and made everything so easy. The rest of the staff were excellent also, and I certainly felt like a Princess from the moment we arrived.
The food was good - not amazing, but better than what I've in the likes of the Radisson or the Ardilaun, for example - and as good as what you'll get at any large event. And the honeymoon suite has to be seen to be believed too ;)
Many of the Galway guests especially said that they loved the experience, and everyone enjoyed being serenaded by the tinkling of the piano player as we arrived and mingled.
Really, Detoxkid, check them out and I'm sure you'll be impressed!

Cloonton, I am SO glad that you posted as we have ended up going for the Meyrick and we will be getting married in July (2012). We did the tour of all the hotels and loved the Meyrick above all others. The bridal suite was booked out when we looked so delighted to hear that it is fab. We looked at the one in the Radisson and I would have almost booked the hotel for that, it was AWESOME. Calum Best had stayed there the night before which added to the excitement (which is odd considering he's a twat!)

Did you have many at your wedding? The room was set up for 180 last Sunday and it did look a little snug... We'll probably have 180 at our wedding. My other reservation was that the smoking area is outside the front door, was worried it might break up the party a bit. Also the parking, did ye manage to negotiate anything with them on parking for guests?

Aaahhh! I'm delighted you chose them!! It's always nice to be different;)
We had 150 at our do, and to be honest I thought the place looked a teeny bit spacious, so I'd say 170/180 would be perfect. It was also the hottest day of the year when we got married, so the party spilled out of the function room and took over the reception area, which meant that the smokers weren't left out. In fact now that I think back, I spent a good lot of the night out on the steps and in the reception chatting  I guess that's another advantage of this place - it's not going to be over run with other weddings, etc, so you really do rule the place for the day, and every time you step outside you'll get to have a Kate Middleton moment as you'll be the centre of attention of the whole town!
I'd say call back up to them one of these days and get a good look at the honeymoon suite. Honestly, every time I walk down Eyre Square to this day, I still cast my eyes up to those windows to check out whats going on in MY suite ;) In my experience the staff'll be only too happy to indulge you :)

Oh, I forgot to say, when we got married, there was a certain amount of valet parking which was great for the oldies, and they had a deal with the Fairgreen Carpark up opposite the new coach station, so perhaps they still do? I can't remember how much it cost, but it was bugger all for the night from what I remember.

Great stuff, detoxkid. I hope you like it!! Considering the bathroom alone is the size of a decent double room I'm sure you will :D

Hi just wondering how your wedding in the meyrick went? We just booked it!

Hi all, we are looking around at venue’s at the moment and really like the look of the Meyrick. Any feedback or advice?

I was at a wedding there a few years ago and one thing that concerns me is the late bar. The night I was there the staff in the residents bar were quite rude and wanted us to finish up as quickly as possible. I was not a resident which is fair enough; I didn’t even attempt to try order. But even the people staying in the hotel were having trouble being served despite the fact that the bar was supposed to serve until 4. Was just a bad way to end the night. Did you have any hassle with this?

We had no problems with the residents bar...it was at least 7 when we hit the sack ! They moved us into the lobby but that was fine !
