Former UK Environment Minister Elliot Morley joins the jailbird ranks of public servants found guilty of fiddling expenses ...... what chance the same here in Ireland? And keep the swearing to a minimum please!

At a guess no. They will have to wait till they are caught without a TV license.

Of course not. White collar crooks rarely/never get put away in this country. Great country to be a criminal.

Corrupt TD's, Senators and Public servants wont be jailed. Theives, violent thugs and drug dealers wont get jailed either. Welcome to Ireland: The most liberal justice system on the planet.

The people who deprived Ireland of its economic sovereignity and independence will never see the inside of a jail cell. And the kind of stuff they got up to would make J.R. Ewing blush.

They are the kind of plankton that grew up around the Dail and the Race Tent like viruses in a petri dish, where the cutehoor is rewarded and even admired by the forelock - tugging peasants/voters/journos.

They have the right idea in America where Bernie Maddoff was sent to prison.

Of course not, fiddling is natural amongst men - in fact most people here are probably guilty of that.

See in the UK when a politician does something wrong, the police arrest them and they go to court.

Here, we pay a tribunal €100 million over a decade and a half to produce a report that is not legally binding and cannot be admissable as proof that the politician did anything wrong.

    Great system, isn't it!

That would be justice. So, No.

    No.
Ironically though if any ordinary Joe on the street even did half of what they did then ordinary Joe would be locked up without any tribunal.

No, in lieu of a prison sentence or fine, they will recieve a massive pension and some sort of "thank you" bonus of anything up to 3 million as a lump sum. Some of them will have state cars, senior gardai escourts and the likes for the rest of their lives and when they die they will get state funerals, and the funny thing is, thousands of people will attend.

The fiddlers are protected by bigger fiddlers of previous times. ;)

Do I detect a hint of scepticism here?
