My guess would be the TDC sensor also know as the crank sensor.

Sometimes these can be taken off, clean and put back on and the car
    will go grand.

Had a similar problem on a 00 Clio.

If still unsure a diagnostic check might be worth doing, save on the guessing game! :D Good Luck.

As Muckie says, remove and clean the TDC sensor, cured many a lumpy idling Renault.

The guys on www.renaultforums.co.uk are a wealth of info and very helpful, try them.

If you are getting no fault lights on the dash then this problem is often down to a dirty throttle body on Renaults..

Would the same apply to other cars, I have an 02 Honda Odyssey and it stalls a lot when i slow down/stop on short trips, once I've gone a distance, it tends not to happen.

It can well do alright although other things like idle control valves sticking/gasket leaking, vacume leaks etc can cause it too.

I have a 2006 renault laguna and mine also cuts out, decelerating coming up to a junction or roundabout. Doesnt happen when the car is started up but after driving for a couple of minutes then it tends to cut out when slowing down. I have had diagnostic tests done but nothing has shown up. I have had the trottle body cleaned, put chemicals into the petrol to clean the engine, etc....still the problem remains.
Anybody know what else I could try, or has anyone had this problem and successfully fixed it!!

I use to work in a Renault garage and this happened to nearly every Laguna. The throttle body needs to be cleaned. If this doesnt cure the problem you may need to get the idle speed turned up slightly. It would need to be connected to a Renault diagnostic machine to do this.

I can say 110% this will cure it. I have a laguna and it did the exact same thing and cleaning the throttle body housing and the breating pipes sorted it.

The tdc will only stop the car starting not have it running lumpy/cutting out.
