Joining the reserve...

I have recently attempted to join the 62nd reserve infantry based in baldonnel. I have filled out all the forms and I have taken an eye/hearing exam which I passed. After which some recruits that had already been given security clearence were able to complete a medical not too long after. I and a few others where told we would be contacted at another date. This was back in February and I have not had any contact since. I submitted my security clearence forms late in 2010 so I would have to imagine they have been processed by now.

Anyone have any information that could help me out?

    Thanks

Speaking only from what Ive heard in my own unit, it seems that theres a stop on all recruitment currently in place, due to waiting on a government VFM report being published on the future of the reserves.

there are talks of recruiting in large numbers later this year but i assume this will be if the report comes out first and contains progressive information.

stay in contact with 62nd and phone their HQ every couple of weeks to see if they can confirm this to you and in case there are any changes in the above.

Alpha, it's probably just a case of hurry up and wait. Even during the good times, security clearances routinely took six months and more, over a year if you spent significant time living abroad. Some subunit bureaucracies are more efficient than others, too, and a good way to make sure someone's working on your paperwork is call them every two or three weeks on their parade night to check in.

Don't be pushy, though. The guys who are processing your paperwork are more frustrated by the delays and uncertainty involved with recruiting at the minute than you are and they'll be doing all they can to get fresh blood into the unit.
