The last Bloc Party thread was from 2005 so didnt wanna drag it up
Bloc Party are back. Almost. After a two-year hiatus, the band will stage a "proper" reunion in September. While the group intends to develop new material, they have no plans to perform before the end of 2011.

Fans have been speculating for months about a Bloc Party reunion, spurred by a group photo at Christmas. The rumours intensified when Russell Lissack became a free agent at the end of March, leaving Ash after about a year as a touring guitarist. Now, Lissack has confirmed that Bloc Party are to return, in an interview with NME.

"Kele and I started working on Bloc Party stuff," Lissack said. "We're having a bit of a break until the festivals are over, because people have commitments during the summer, but we're going to get back properly in September and sit in a rehearsal studio to work on new band material."

In a Facebook posting last month, drummer Matt Tong said Bloc Party will "most likely not" play any concerts in 2011, although they plan to make another album. In another recent interview, Lissack said he had already written "maybe seven or eight songs" for the next Bloc Party LP.

Bloc Party have been on hiatus since the end of 2009. "We definitely need to have a break and gain a bit of perspective on life outside of the band," Tong said at the time." All Bloc Party members except Tong have since launched side-projects, including Lissack's Pin Me Down, bassist Gordon Moakes's Young Legionnaire, and Kele Okereke's 2010 solo album, The Boxer.

    Hopefully this turns out well!
Thought Silent Alarm was a really, really good album.
A Weekend in the City also ended up growing on me quite a bit, but I thought Intimacy was just a bit....meh

    Bloc Party
To reiterate, Kele's still in the band (how could he not, he started the damn thing), but Tong's out, replaced by Dave Abbruzzese.

The last parts a joke btw

What did people think of the quality of Bloc Party's output before they went on hiatus?

I guess I can sum my opinion up by ranking the albums:
    1. Silent Alarm
    2. AWITC
    3. Intimacy

Not that Intimacy was that bad, but it wasn't a patch on Silent Alarm and not as good as AWITC. It just sounded so forced, as though Kele was shoving the band in a certain direction. Now that he's done his solo thing and hopefully got it out of his system, I'm hoping they can revert back to the band they were on Silent Alarm and, to a lesser extent, AWITC.

By the way, Silent Alarm was released almost 7 years ago. Timeless.

Could be good news, but theyre fake disharmony as a publicity stunt a few months ago was pretty tacky to be honest. Dont think they'll ever do 'Silent Alarm' quality again, but it still should be good.

Couple of decent tunes, brutal live. Not missed.

Not officially, just went on indefinite hiatus so no one knew if they were going to make a comeback at some point. Especially since Kele released two solo albums, people just assumed they had parted ways.

Looking forward to a fourth album, listened to their discography a few weeks ago and still loved every minute of it

Anybody listen to the side project that Gordon was doing with Paul Mullen (The Automatic, Yourcodenameis:Milo) ?

They were called Young Legionnaire and were quite good I thought! :D

Anyway, they recently played their last gig 'for a while' in October so this probably means Bloc Party will be back together soon.

I actually really like Intimacy and Kele's solo stuff :p Silent Alarm is still their best album imo, but I thought that the move towards a more electronic sound was interesting and done quite well.

Also, I wasn't even aware that there was a chance they wouldn't be releasing stuff again until I saw this thread! Shows how musically well-informed I've kept myself this year :pac:
