Yup, I'm using a Sony A550 and have a A100 I'm selling as I don't use it anymore. I kind of fell into using Sony as I was a long time Minolta user and had a selection of lenses so made sense to go down the Sony route.

I have an Alpha 200 with kit lens and 70-300 which I don't use enough. I also have the 42AM Flash which I find very good.
I'll probably move up into the mid range Alpha's next year when I get more experience and knowledge.
The images on my pix.ie account are taken with it.

I have a Pentax K-X buy look at other brands every mow and again. The a550 seems very good- flip out screen, good fps, nice specs, very good live view etc. If anyone has it I'd like to know their opinions.

I have an A200 with the kit lens, Sigma 18-200mm F3.5-6.3, Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG Macro HSM II and a Sigma EF-530 DG Super TTL Flash.

Want to get a 24-70mm F2.8 for everyday use. Use the 70-200 F2.8 the most for taking shots in the football club

Its an ok lens, can be a little slow to react at times. For a cheap enough price it is not bad for everyday use

Looking at it seriously any issues with it being loose on the hotshoe?
    Also where and how much?

I have an A550 and like it, the flip out LCD can be handy at times but I'm a little old school and prefer using the viewfinder. Yes has very good FPS (7 fps), good ISO performance, stabilisation is in the body rather than lens. I do find that the sensor attracts dust much more than my A100 did. All the shots on my flickr and blog were shot with the A550

I bought the flash while in New York. Bought it in B&H Photo.

I have no memory of having any issues with it being loose on the hotshoe

Have a100 - old but serves its purpose!

plus the 2 kit lens, 18-70 and 75-300. Recently purchased the 1.8 50mm potrait lens - loving it!

also picked up a remote control on ebay for <20 quit - perfect for getting wildlife close-ups!

What I need next is a flash - but on a tight budget - anyone recommend a cheap and cheerful flash unit?

    I got the A55 and have since purchased a nifty fifty 1.8, a 70-300mm and a 15mm fisheye.
Very happy with the camera so far having come from a Canon 40D that was stolen
Haven't experimented with the full hd autofocus video yet.

Is this camera capable of using the old Minolta lenses?

The Sony Alpha bodies can use Minolta (AKA Konica-Minolta) & 3rd party lenses made for the Dynax (Maxxum in US) range. The older MD & MC (manual focus) Minolta/Rokkor lenses can be used in full manual if you buy an adapter.

Two of the lenses I used with my A550 were originally bought for and used on my Minolta 800si & 500si.

One thing to be careful of, in some cases older sigma lenses designed for Minolta Dynax, can have problems with gears being stripped as the torque on the Sony AF motor is higher than the torque on the original Minolta bodies.

I have it on trial from somebody who bought it and found it wasn't what they were looking for so haven't decided whether to buy it or not yet! Took some photos last weekend and found it wasn't as pronounced as I thought it would be.

Here's one of the shots ...

Very happy with flash (€60 on ebay delivered) wireless and TTL sweet as a nut.
Bought 28-135 off done deal(€50) seller said it was in good nick but it does need a pro cleaning(ie fungus) and zoom needs cleaning also as a wee bit stiff 3/4 the way round but doesnt really impact the pics.
I dont mind spending a few quid and getting it cleaned up as it is one of the best lenses minolta made with the negative of not having any sort of hood, therefore flaring is an issue with it!
