Advice on new laptop for work

I'm starting a new job next week and they've asked me what laptop I'd like and whether I've any particular specifications or requests. Obviously I can't take the complete piss. What's the best to go for in terms of say €600 to €700 budget? I'll be using it mainly for MS Office, internet and maybe music at home so probably don't need anything too high powered. Long battery life would be good I suppose. Any ideas?

Edit: Saw something to suggest that Sony and Toshiba have lowest rates of problems with hardware in first three years. Would something like this be any good: http://www.dabs.ie/products/sony-vaio-ee3z0e-b-amd-phenom-ii--p840-1-9ghz-6gb-500gb-15-5--windows-7-home-premium-64-bit-laptop-766Q.html

Are you going to be moving this laptop around a lot? Or is it going to spend most of it's life on a desk?
If you need something portable i'd go for something portable, perhaps around the 13" size. And find a machine with the best battery life you can. By the sounds of it, you don't need a powerful machine to do what you need, so a machine with a long battery life should be easy to find.

Your IT department seem to sound very nice!

Well if they are purchasing the laptop it will be ex VAT from their supplier. Most laptops that work purchases are in the region of 1000euro ex VAT.And mostly HP elitebooks and have i7 intel processors. Hp are far as i know throw in 3 years support and 1 year on the battery for business customers.

What is it going to be used for might give a better indication on the spec you need. For instance is it going to be used for modelling software, software development, need to be ultra portable?

Thanks for the replies. I think it'll be mainly MS Word, internet use and maybe some powerpoint so I don't think it needs to be particularly high powered in terms of processing. I'll be taking it out of the office a fair bit so I think weight and battery size are probably the most important factors.
