Dublin Airport Arrivals hall --- Screens!

I noticed that DAA have installed two screens, each with 6 panels, in the Arrival Hall. They are what greets travellers who exit Customs.

Trouble is they obscure the view people waiting to meet and greet have of the exit doors. It is impossible to see both exits from behind the barrier apart from one position. As there is no way of knowing which door will be used by your loved one, business pickup, etc people are now congregating at the ends of the barriers, at busy times blocking visitors exiting.

Notice that there is a "Meeting Point" sign in the top picture with a special double barrier. If you were to stand under it no visitor would ever see you.

Anyone know why these passenger unfriendly screens were erected?

    Wow!

It's possible that they've been put in to encourage the flow out to the arrivals area from the Customs area. They've installed double doors as you pass from Customs so these might be to encourage people to keep moving as they pass through these doors rather than stop and look for their loved ones etc. It may also be to discourage said loved ones from running up to the door to hug the returning passenger and blocking the path of everyone behind.

It's to spread the flow, and stop people from stopping at the door with their luggage/trolleys etc, clogging up the stream while looking for relatives/friends/lifts etc - which I've seen happen many times before it was erected.

The aim of these screens is to protect the integrity of the Customs Airside operation by impeding visibility airside from landside onlookers.

Working in the airport, we have been told the reason is the above ^.
Customs were really visible from landside before these screens were erected so they insisted they be installed for security reasons. I've heard a lot of people complain about them alright, but to be honest it is a relatively small arrivals area and once you know who you're looking for, I cant see how it would put people out too much.

Chauffeur pick-ups etc I understand because theyre not sure who theyre looking for and people have a tendancy to wander off.
