Hi guys, hopefully this is the right section.

So my problem is that we have a laptop down one end of the building, and a TV down the other end. We need to broadcast a Powerpoint Presentation from one to the other.

We got a 40mts HDMI cable to run from the laptop to the TV, but nothing happened, no signal was picked up. Tried it with another 40mts HDMI too so its not the cable thats at fault. Tried reversing the ends too but no joy. On a regular 1m hdmi cable the computer automatically detected that the TV was plugged into it and transmitted the signal.

So now Im not sure what to do. Ive seen this fella which may work, but the signal doesnt seem to even reach the end of the 40m cable so Im not sure.

Other options include VGA, but the TV doesnt have a VGA input. We could get a HDMI over CAT5 for which is 30mts long, would that fair better? Any other routes we could explore?

Thanks for your help in advance!

What you need is a HDMI repeater. They can be used for extended cable runs. I've never used them mind so I'm not sure how well they work.

Probably best not to have a HDMI cable over 20m for best results. A HDMi repeater or the HDMI over CAT5 should sort you out alright.

The advantage of the HDMI over CAT5 is that it will allow you to run the signal to many locations (as long as they are networked of course) rather than sticking a HDMI repeater in between two 20m HDMI cables and then running it to the desired location.

Convenience vs budget and all that:-)
