They seem to occupy something of a middle ground now that Zipp have developed a full carbon clincher with a different profile (at over €2k a set!).

€1200 is still a lot of money for wheels, and with less aero/slightly lighter/worse braking full carbon clinchers for around a thousand quid the choice is between weight-weenyness and aero/braking performance.

I'd imagine there might be some good used deals going when the bling-monkeys upgrade to the full carbon ones.

I think they're a great idea. But try getting your hands on a pair. I'm not sure when they were released, but I think it was 2008, and they really were a special edition, produced in limited numbers. Cyclesuperstore always seem to have them on their website, but I did enquire before and they said that they were out of stock and couldn't get any more in. Before Christmas, wheelworx had one slightly shop soiled pair in stock. Dunno if they're still there.

Having bought a pair of 606's myself since, I think this golf ball dimpled craic is a complete nonsense. If it's so critical then why do they cover about 60% of the dimpled surface area with massive "ZIPP!!!!" stickers ???

If you can find em, they're a far more wallet friendly entry ticket into the Zipp wheelset club. 2 grand is a mental price for wheels. 1200 quid is still a lot of money, but .... you'll always sell 'em again. I wish they made more of 'em. I would have bought them myself, but in the end I got a cracking deal on a "preloved's" :)

    Ha ha ha :D

I think they should put the price tag on there in decal form. How humbling would that be for everyone else at your next sportive tea and sandwiches stop?:pac:
