plastering sand is generally washed sharp sand, whereas building sand could be just what is dug out of the sand pits.

One simple test is if u wet the building sand the water can be dirty brown whereas good quality plastering sand should wash clean.
Ideally all sand used for quality building work should be washed so the above test just shows if it has been washed or not

So bags of plastering sand is basicly just "sharp" sand??

So Im presuming that plastering sand would be ok to use for lining the bottom of a small 7 inch deep trench for placing some railway sleepers in,for a raised garden bed?

    Thanks.:)
