No picture on a digital box? Your box doesn't support HD. Nothing to do with the country being a joke.

Your equipment is providing the joke. RTÉ Two is still available nationally.

well my system worked for 2 years on a standard definition.

it would still work if rte sent out the signal as standard definition but it now only uses high definition.

As far as i am concerned rte must be getting a percentage of the price of the new set top boxes now that have the hd version.......in other words this is nothing but a money making racket, something alot of irish people like to partake in.

It's not a money making racket. Simulcasting SD and HD is a waste of bandwidth, they do it in the UK because they have to. Here we're launching a new service so we don't have to.

RTE NL have no interest in any aspect of the retail of boxes or TVs. It is in their interest not to have to broadcast SD and HD versions of their channels. The fact that the spec has been available for a number of years and is now being implemented has not stopped UK based retailers dumping wholly unsuitable product on the Irish public, even now. To justify selling MPEG 2 sets by saying they work with Sky or UPC is nonsense. Those services do not use a tuner.

Your argument is with the retailers who are selling junk.

Except for a week between 2nd - 9th Dec last when RTÉ 2 was transmitted in 1080i HD format only

A low bitrate Temporary RTÉ 2 SD channel returned on the 9th Dec last and ceased again in the early hours of April 18th.
