the cat burnt out agian in the 2002 golf.

now not sure whats going on. was ran through diagnostic and it was said the lambda sensor was gone. 2 days later eml back on and the cat is gone.

    was replaced last june.

anyway the lad in fast fit said that he see this the whole time with the golf and that this happens to them and will more than likely happen in anouther few months. . The cat was then replaced under warranty.

now my query is , is this lad feeding the gf a line...... as in if its an obvious fault with the car why did he replace the cat?

and if it is a common faul with the 2002 golf.... what is the fault and has anyone else heard of it ?

    Is it the 1.4 engine?

They have a tendency to burn oil like it's going out of fashion, this would destroy a cat. Is it using much oil do you know?

    yeah its the 1.4l

it does not burn oil at all. cant remeber the last time i had to put oil in it. ( i check it quite regularly)

    I'd be checking/replacing the coils.

Would that not show up in the diagnostics?
Last year when the cat was originally replaced it was spluttering but the mechanic replaced the leads . Leads are still grand but would this oijt back towards the coils

I presume the replaced Cat wasnt a genuine VW part.
Usually these require genuine parts when replacing o2 sensors and cats, this usually doesn't happen due to cost.

    They were not genuine parts.

Whats your typical usage pattern like? Do you do a lot of short trips after cold starts?

the engine would get a good run after any start.

Although these may all the reasons for the cat to go initially. and i understand no part on any car will go forever.

but my main thing has anyone else heard these happening to golfs the whole time?
