Just curious, how many people on here buy off Mick's Garage & if not then where's your preferred choice of sourcing replacement parts?

Havent purchased anything from them but I do use their website to check retail prices against current suppliers, and they're much the same.

    mick's is too expensive.
I used these guys a couple of times now. Buypartsby.co.uk
They charge 30euro delivery with dhl though but still worth it if getting anumber of parts. Very professional and fast delivery.

    Where's the poll???

Never used them myself, I heard they were as expensive as anywhere else.

I was going to buy a headlamp off them a couple of months ago, but found the same part on ebay for almost half the price. I suppose they could be handy for other things, just make sure to do your sums.

Local factors, specialists or scrap yard (rarely as the local one are pr1cks) or ebay for 2nd hand stuff. Have never used Mick's garage for anything.

MG site is poor imo and puts me off using them.

    Local Motor factors normally.

If I need something specialist ill go to a specialist.

mick Garage: Well designed site but sorry, prices are too high.

I buy from my local Auto Factors.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,800 ✭✭✭voxpop

Generally too expensive but used it once to get some wipers. Selected the make/model and year of the car and was presented with about 10 different sets of wipers, some wiper sets, some single wipers, some refills - or at least thats what I figured from the sparse info.
Anyway there were 2 identical sets on the site for my car(or so I though) - choose 1 set and it turned out to be the wrong ones. Got a refund but had to post back at my own expense - should have just gone down to the motor factors, lesson learned.

The now seem to have a reg input to return your car - choose Bosch wipers and put in my reg and it still returns 7 products ranging from 11 quid to 52.60

Aye, stuck in my reg and got two different sized air filters... Contacted their support who suggested "measure the one ya have in there already" *rolleyes*

that pretty much sums it up.

why buy from micks garage, pay more and have to wait days for delivery when i can pop out to my local motor factors and get the parts cheaper the same day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 176 ✭✭charlieharper

Thats what I thought. Ya get 7 different options for 1 part. There's also needless information on it like listing 1979 Austin Metro's & so forth.

    Interesting answers in any case.

I have bought parts off the site, delivery is a tad expensive, but there was a good selection of parts and they fit, they were very helpfull over the phone as well Prices were ok, cheapest place i could find spark plug cables even with the delivery as an example

I've looked at it, but thats as far as I've got. Local motor factors all the way.

A word of warning: Do not sign up for Micks garage mailing list.
There is no known way to unsubscibe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,262 ✭✭✭Buford T Justice

I managed to do it. Can't remember how exactly though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,376 ✭✭✭jack of all

I've only ever used it to price check: when I wanted to purchase a service kit for a Corsa they were asking €40+ euro for the oil filter alone!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,006 ✭✭✭✭The Muppet

i bought headlamps from it and they were well priced , delivery was quick. I have looked at other items which turned out to be too expensive.

I find Irishautoparts (TallaghMotorfactors) are usually very good on price but you cant beat ebay on price once the proper part arrives.

Local motor factors are cheaper, friendlier, more knowledgeable and a short stroll from my house.

Local motor factors (AD Roscrea). It used to be indepentant until AD took over a few years ago. We got trade discount off the original guy an AD honoured the agreement when they took it over even though we are just a big family with a lot of cars!

The "search" bar is a mess I found. You type in anything and it comes back with hundreds of useless items.

Staff are helpful and friendly and the diy vids they have are quite good.

Prices are a bit high though, especially when you take P&P in.

Local factors for me, almost always work out cheaper (almost!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

Almost everything I get is from various internet sites.
Local factors for small cheap stuff, wiper blades etc. Or even Aldi/Lidl on occasion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,403 ✭✭✭kincaid

Very expensive and my local motorfactors is even cheaper than them and you can get it immediately while you have to wait maybe a few days from micks garage for your item too arrive.... not much use if you need part quickly and what happens when your sent the wrong item by mistake -wait twice as long...
for parts i dont need in a hurry i use some uk online motorstores and ebay as the items are half the price even when you pay for delivery to ireland...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,237 ✭✭✭darragh o meara

Back in the days we were all millionaires I used them once or twice but now I find them too expensive. Plus I prefer to keep my money local if I can. I buy a good bit of stuff from the motor factors and can usually wrangle a good bit of discount on stock parts plus the knowledge the lads there have is invaluable.

In my opinion keep it local and keep the jobs and businesses going.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,404 ✭✭✭✭vicwatson

I've bought off them before a few times but after the last time the customer service back up was so bad I've never bought off them since, and won't in the future.

They didn't give a damn or take my complaint seriously so.....bye bye Micks Garage.

I used them once last year to purchase air flow meter and to be honest wouldn't use them again.
The problem I got was that the sensor was advertised as a original manufacturer part but in fact it was probably cheap Chinese copy.
Couldn't get refund and lost 150 euro for nothing. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,352 ✭✭✭Mar4ix

Used them couple times. They have an offer, if you spend 50 euro, free delivery .... so handy enough when doing some bigger job.
Recently ordered heater matrix for my punto (none or crazy price in local motorfactors, also irishautoparts send me wrong one- even if they knew that they are sending wrong one - lol) and number other service parts, which was together around 80 euro. paid 59 for original magnetti marelli heater matrix (wow), but after i was using online chat... wouldnt find myself. Found them reasonable priced, good price for good quality.
My recent order arrived in next day, id say delivery service has improved.

If somebody after something, suggest use online chat, will get correct part.

    will use them again.

Charged me €7.50 for courier but posted it that cost the price of a stamp.

@irelandspurs. did you mention this to them and how can they justify this..were they hoping you wouldnt notice it?

they have also a strict return policy and if you not on the ball you lose out, when mistakes are made its the customer who suffers and pays the price

my local motorfactors are great -would take any part back anytime and can haggle the price (are cheaper anyway) but you cant do this online.

Wouldnt dream of using micks garage. has no plus points at all

Yeahi put a message on there facebook page about it this was there reply.

Chris thanks for the feedback... Posting and packaging is a variable cost that depends on the product and we have an average of 7.50 set... in a lot of cases it would cost us a lot more than 7.50 to courier out various parts... certain small parts like switches and sensors would be posted...

Bought 2 new headlights from the site. Within 6 months, one had already started to fog up on the inside(moisture). Yes, they are installed correctly.
