Hi all, my brother in law has one final chance to do his phase 6 plumbing exams, I am trying to get him some help, I think it's the gas exam but can confirm that, can anyone help him with some grinds? Or know of anyone, college hasnt seemed to be of much help regarding this. If he fails this time, he's failed the course, thank you very much, Caroline

Does he have all the required notes ? There is a large gas book you have to buy , did he get all the sample questions off the lecturers , to be fair if he has all the materials and sample questions and puts in the effort studying its a hard exam to fail?
find out does he have these first.

When you say grinds ,does he need a sponsor/employer to take him on so he can finish his exams ?
I thought no matter what stage you're at in Fas ,you always have to have a sponsor during any part of the apprenticship ?

Phase 6 is an off the job phase you dont need an employer for the off the job phases of 2/4/6 . This guy needs help with exams , if its his last chance he must of done the exam twice already.

I've done that apprenticship myself and worked with a few lads aswell ,theres a lot of electrical stuff in phase six ,even down to electrons etc.

I don't think it's possible to grind for it ,unless you hold onto the notes you'd get I suppose.

EDIT: I've checked the FAS website and there is a phase after six ,so you would need an employer.

Thanks for the replies, do u really think that grinds won't really help him? maybe just a set of concise notes would do it? he is dyslexic so I'm not sure if that's making it more difficult for him, he has an employer, and yes he has done the exam twice already.

I'll try and find what I have and see if there is anything online.

Being dyslexic wouldn't help ,but it shouldn't really stop him from finishing his apprenticship. The thing about the gas exam is that the book is fairly big and not sure what way there is around it verbally.
Theres also the color test as part of the electrical ,but he's probably fine with that.

I only did those exams back in december , if he was there for all his gas classes he shouldnt be having these problems, basically you buy the gas book its a couple of hundred pages long its really just a glorified photcopied folder, they go through the book and get you to highlight all the important bits, 99% of the questions came from these highlighted passages.
Along with this we were given sample questions a good few of the sample questions were similar to questions asked , also in the book are sample questions , unless hes after missed the classes first day and doesnt have the important parts highlighted he shoudnt be failing , Unfortunatly im in cork and cant help if i was nearer i would give him grinds and would guarantee he would pass .

Thanks for that, I'll check he has all the reading material and try to encourage him to hit the books! All the best
