My other half was telling me that she heard on TV today that RTE would have RTE 2 HD up and running before September. Im just wondering if UPC will have that channel available when it's released?

It's the Rugby World Cup and sport in general I'm most interested in seeing.

They're already sending RTE 2 over terrestrial in HD, although it's just being upscaled by RTE at source for now. No reason for UPC not to change it over to HD on their system though.

Thanks, I have all my tv through the UPC digibox so I'm hoping they'll offer RTE2 HD soon.

It would work slightly different if it were available on UPC, in that UPC SD boxes are MPEG2 while HD boxes are MPEG4. Therefore they'd need to put RTÉ Two HD Select on a different EPG no to RTÉ Two SD.

Does that mean that the HD channels are not available downscaled to SD on the SD-only boxes? As in, what would happen if I typed in 135 (BBC HD) on an SD box?

They could do a Sky-type scenario with the channel number depending on the box type.

They did it before with channel 100 when the old Pace boxes couldn't handle 100, so it went on 999 for them, and 100 for UPC-branded ones.

you could stick rabit ear arial in the back of your telly and providing its saorview compatible you shoudl pick up the channels
