Site based in China. At best the shoes are knockoffs, at worst it's a scam. If the shoes are knockoff, then Customs can seize them, as buying counterfeit goods is illegal.

I went to the MBT Ireland site just now and found the account suspended. Then I came across this post. I can only relate my own experience.

Two weeks ago I bought two pairs of MBTs from this site. While I waited for my shoes, the company sent me two e-mails explaining how the goods were being sent. They arrived this morning in perfect condition. They are identical to previous pairs I bought from a local pharmacy before they stopped selling them. I am very satisfied with my buying experience with this company.

It's almost always a bad idea to buy consumer goods from a site which does not list a postal address. China-based whois info is also not confidence inspiring.

I can't remember whether I saw an address or not. If they hadn't communicated with me I would have been suspicious, I think. I always bought my shoes locally, and since I am not mobile, it was necessary to look and see if I could get them online. I wonder why all local outlets stopped selling them, and now they are only available in a few places, including for some reason Dublin Airport.

While I'm here, can anyone recommend any similar type shoe which I might be able to find in local shops?

Watch out, there are fakes about!

There are unfortunately a number of companies offering consumers cheaper, lesser quality fake MBTs that can actually damage rather than help strengthen the body.
We therefore strongly recommend you purchase MBTs only through approved retailers and dealers who are trained to ensure you can enjoy the full benefits of our unique, scientifically-proven footwear.

    Thanks for that, Maxer.

I also noticed loads of sites selling discontinued MBTs in the UK, and they seem to be authentic enough.

I must say it was quite a blow that they stopped selling them locally. I couldn't find out why, have you any idea? I mean, they are only in that handful of outlets now.

They were just the Dublin outlets - plenty more around the country.

My guess is that the craze for them has died down and they are now being worn just by those who need / like them. Hence retail sales drop off and they get de-listed from the shop's list of products and end up just being in specialist shops.

If a product does not sell well enough to justify the wall space a retailer will simply move to the next thing.
