Hey all, looking for a bit of travel advice. We are getting married in Ireland at the start of August and are hoping to head off with backpacks for 5-6 weeks honeymoon in Asia, Cambodia in particular is probably our first choice but we are open to suggestions (would consider South or Central America). We are looking for a bit of beach life and whatever else is on offer....treking, cities etc.

Our concern is the fact that it will be wet season at this time and we would love to hear about peoples experiences in Asia during August/September. Basically is the rain a total bummer? While we aren't really into lying around on a beach for weeks, a few days would be nice ;)

    Thanks in advance

As far as im aware the monsoon season hits the andaman coast and the gulf of thailand at different times. I think the gulf of thailand should be ok for you then I was there last July and it was overcast at times but not raining but on the andaman coast which i was only at for like 2 days it rained constantly.

Cambodia is good for 4 or 5 days in total, I wouldnt spend more time there. The temples are beautiful but the rest of the country is nothing great. Vietnam on the other hand is amazing, Siagon city is a great city and the beaches are beautiful (granted not Thailand beautiful but beautiful non the less) also lots to do there!

Not sure whats its like in Rainy season though so cant help on that one sorry!

I know you have 6weeks but probably 1week as another poster has pointed out would be plenty for Cambodia on a short holiday.
I have covered the whole country years ago and it's not exactly honeymoon travelling.
Save it for a long trip but you would probably be best to just fly into Angkor wat and do a 2 day tuk tuk tour of the temples, phenom penh is interesting but not romantic.
If I had 6 weeks in south east Asia I would got to Lao for 10 days travelling up from Vientiane -Luang prabang.Rainy season does not effect it as much and been there many times round August where it was swealtering hot.
If you keep the last 3 weeks free for Thailand Koh Chang is often dry the end if August beginning of September and a good spot,if you venture up to Chiang Mai it might only rain for an hour a day but sometimes you will welcome that as it's cooling off.
Phuket is often fine during these times also.
Google thaivisa.com the folks will give you sound advice it's similar to boards.
