So my laptop died. It's served me well as it's about 5 years old and it's been dropped from a few heights and been subject to a few viruses.

So I'm on the hunt for a new one and price is key.

I can list on one hand the things I've actually used my laptop for.

    1. Internet browsing
    2. Watching DVDs in bed (no tv in the room)
    3. Storing photos
    4. Storing music and burning cds (was always a fan of mixed tapes back in the day)

So thats it. Was looking at net books but that pretty much rules out number 2.

Have found this and just wondering if you tech wizards would know if it would be suitable for what I need it for. I've looked up reviews and I know the battery life is crap, as is the sound but I'm not too bothered about that. Any other recommendations? Hoping for under €350 if at all possible.

    Thanks

I don't know much (anything) bout that chip but it's a single core not a dual like Harvey site says....I'd imagine any lappie would do you though, you have basic needs.

I don't see anything better in a bricks and mortar shop either.

Except maybe this one, it's the same spec but has a low end graphics card (ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4250) so it'l be abit quieter when watching DVDs or if you put it under pressure. €350, so in budget.

    Would you buy online?

This could be got on Amazon,
Toshiba Satellite C660-19G 15.6 inch Notebook (Intel Pentium T4500 Processor, 3GB RAM, 250GB HDD, Windows 7 Home Premium)

    Was £429.99
    Price: £319.99

Works out at €381 (current exchange rates) with free shipping, I know it's a bit over your budget, though I think it fits all of your requirements.

Thanks guys. I've been thinking about availing of the carphonewarehouse/vodafone offer of a compaq netbook for €150 with a 12 month mobile broadband contract (cancelled my mobile broadband with another provider a few months ago) and buying an external disc drive for it for burning cds. For all I use it watching dvds it's not really worth the extra cash for a laptop especially when the budget is so low.
Think I'll go for the netbook and try to save for a decent laptop over the next year or two.

    Thanks for the replies.

I've been looking into getting new laptop recently and was advised that Sony and Toshiba are pretty reliable. Battery life on Sony seems to be an issue though. Some nice Toshibas here: http://www.dabs.ie/
