Running in warm weather

    Hi,

During the winter I had no problem running 10k in the cool weather. I felt fine after and felt I oculd run another 10k!

Now, this week I am really struggling running in the warm weather. I find it really tough, and though I make the 10k I seriously struggle.

Any advice on this? Was hoping to run a half marathon over the summer but the heat really gets to me.

    Thanks.

I noticed yesterday, my feet were in bits from extra sweating due to the temp. I'll have to start using bodyglide or something.

Shed layers first I'd say. I'm amazed at the amount of gear, people still wear in this weather. Shorts and light top should be enough these days, especially if you're feeling the heat.

It's very muggy out there the past few days. I'm a sweaty mess at the best of times but today and yesterday I've been a disgrace!

Just be sure to get plenty of fluids in before and after your runs and adjust your pace downwards if it's taking more effort than normal for your normal steady pace.

Keep well hydrated and wear less clothes. Heat can be sapping, but your body will adapt to it over time.

A few summers ago, I did quite a lot of training in temps of over 30 degrees. One day at altitude of 5,000 feet and a temp of 40 nearly brought me to a standstill but when I got back to Irish summer time temps of 20, I was flying. Your body will adapt, but give it time. Bring the speed back a bit and enjoy the heat.

    I agree.
I overdressed last week for a run and nearly passed out.

Read the sticky for beginners on blisters once you are sweating more.
Don't wait until you have one.

I have red hair, white skin, I get sunburn just looking at holiday brochures.
I thought I would never get used to running in warm weather, and I adapted.
    If I can, anyone can.

Make sure you are well hydrated, have a quick drink in the middle of your run. My face gets very stingy on long runs from dried sweat. A babywipe is pretty handy.

Love running in mild weather like today, but hate running when the sun is beating down on you.I never seem to be able to get hydration right in hot weather, and always end up having to carry water with me for the duration of the run for fear of passing out:pDefinitely singlet weather today. Although I did see a guy out running topless earlier...that's taking it a bit too far:eek:

This is true, it is only April, but I was surprised how much harder I found running today compared to a few weeks ago.

I ran in much warmer conditions last summer, but I suffered today.

I didn't hydrate enough and I really felt it.

I'm sure will get used to it again soon. Lets hope that we spent the summer
complaining about running in the heat and not complaining about running
    in wet weather.

I'm very pale and struggle big time running in the sun. I get heat exhaustion from spending a couple of hours walking in the sun and have had it a couple of times now so I just avoid running until the weather cools down a bit. Sometimes means having to go for a shorter run or leaving it quite late to go out but it's better than spending the next day unable to even take in water. Another option I take up at weekends is to go for a long cycle, much easier to cycle in the heat than it is to run in it.

I would say you are probably wearing wrong shoes/wrong fit/laces/socks combinaison. I don't think you should have to use bodyglide.

Yeah. the socks weren't great. I went back to some old trusty Aldi/Lidl ones over the weekend, and they were fine. I think Bodyglide definitely helps though.
