I applied for a deputy manager position at lidl some time ago and have just been called to attend a 3 hr assessment being held in newbridge.
Does anyone have any experience or advice on this test??

Hi, there has been plenty of similar threads relating to Aldi/Lidl assesment centres over the last few months, do a quick search there and you should find what your looking for.

    Hi There,

Just to give you an update on the assessment @ the centre in Kildare...I only did it two weeks ago for the same job so maybe this might help.

15 of us bought into a room and sit around a table. Three assessors at the top of the room. Each of us given a folder with paperwork and a name tag to write our names on and put in front of us.

    1) Told to chat to the person beside us for two minutes. Then the assessor goes around the room and calls our names one by one. You stand up and give a short presentation on the person you talked to...eg, this is Paul, he's from kildare and works as a manager for tescos and follows Liverpool etc etc

    2) Then they give a speech and a slide show on how great the company is.

    3) Told to take out question sheet out of folder and 10 mins approx to answer two questions a) What qualities do you need as a manager b) what makes a good manager..both questions where very similar in nature

    3) Break...tea, coffee and biscuits at the back of the room...have a chat of 10 mins or so.

    4) Take out the next attitude test which is about 10questions each with a number of parts. This is for the most part a maths test with pictures of graphs and your asked what is the ratio of milk and sugar to bread etc.....make sure and take out one of the blank sheets to work out your calculations as you have no calculator and the time runs out fast...have a stopwatch so you know how your doing on time.

    5) Room is broken into 3 random teams, each at a seperate table. Given a scenario..we were give a big list of famous names like Micheal Jackson etc and a drawing of a new town and individually we had to name the streets and squares using the list of names. Then we are give one sheet and had to negotiate within the team to agree to use your street names with points scored for every time a street name you picked is used............Big hint: the points mean nothing so don't get caught up arguing to get your recommendations used. The assessors wander the room listening in...they want to hear you reasoning and not forcing your names, working within the team and been fair with other members and listening to them and given some leeway etc...so be heard but don't dominate the group.

Hope this is of help and pm me if you need anymore information....just on the second round of interviews myself after passing the assessment.....the very best of luck.

Thanks a million. Very accurate info but unfortunately I got it too late!!
Just back from it and the format hasnt changed at all. Dunno how I did as it's impossible to gauge. Think I did ok on the questions and spiel about the managers duties. Everyone got there point across around the table in the group test so can only wait and see.
Got home though and found I hadnt handed in the application form which was sent out as a PDF with the invitation to attend. They've got the original application. I didn't see them collecting the apps or hear them ask for them though. Do you think they need them? Can whisk it over tomorrow if I need to.

I attend at the assement centre in Belfast.I was the only one who was not a native speaker, and who came from ROI.
All the process what tipp man runnig wrotte, was the same. Except the beginning:
We had to stand up, and start the abc from the back. Whoever missed, had to sit.
Later we had a Guess who game. All the other task was exactly the same.
It was a week ago. Now I am sitting and waiting to their answer.
One thing I cant understand: How do they gonna make a selection?
We will see. A week just gone, so hopefully they gonna answer me soon.

From the assessment centre to been called for the first interview took about three weeks for me but I think that was because of a changeover in R&D personnel...the ABC backward task sounded fun...I'm not too sure what criteria they used in their selection process but the best of luck.

Was it 3 weeks before you heard anything at all then?
I emailed my completed application form and posted the hard copy but have heard nothing.
I think the selection process is very hit and miss. I've a feeling it's all based on wether you stand out from the crowd and that's it. You do that and pass the psychometric test ok, then you're through. You've just gotta come across as likeable to the training manager and thats it.
Very fickle process but there again, I don't think the company prides itself on being non- fickle. (if that's a word!).

that is some bs selection process for a job...

what exactly are they trying to prove

they might as well have candidate a/b/c/d/e/f...........z

and put them on a wheel, spin it around and see who wins.

would cost them less money also and save all the rubbish

Its a simple process really, they dont want free thinkers or people with ideas, they just want basic foot soldiers who will follow orders and adhere to the manual and not ask questions.

this interview weeds out those who have initiative and are pushy, this is surplus to requirements, a basic level of intelligence and mathematic ability ie: read a stock card and work out a few percentages and youre elected.

You stock what youre told to, work with who youre told to and where, you are told what your targets are and youre expected to meet them. if you have any problems you refer to the manual and stick to the rules.

Dont think, read the manual, work hard. simple really.

@gonphishin....It was just over 3 weeks before I heard anything at all from them. To be honest I though I wasn't been called for the interview stages so had forgotten about it. They just called out of the blue on the mobile, and it came up as a private number on the screen so make sure and answer. I was told in the Interview that the delay was because they were changing the person in R&D and the new guy was finding his feet. By the way its been exactly 2 weeks since my last interview and still haven't heard anything yet.

@Shelflife...Your spot on with your assessment of their tactics, that's exact what I though all through the process. The trick is to use that to your advantage and tell them what they want to hear. They are very black and white, no grey area with them. I don't think the job is for me, i have other interviews and my current contract doesn't run out till September so I'm in no hurry. Going to do the interviews anyway see how I get on.
