    Hi,

I have an interview in DCU next week for entry into the business course next year as a mature student.

Has anyone done interviews in DCU before? Any tips on what I should expect and what kind of questions they ask etc.?

    Thanks.

Same advice applies. But now differentiate yourself from those who are just here kuz they cant get a job and know its a safe bet - tell them why you want to up-skill - otherwise they will give the place to someone else - not to be harsh but of late i've ran into way too many people who are going back to college as they will get the BTEA and other benefits. Sickens me - im not saying that's your reasons. Legitimate up-skilling and for the betterment of your family etc etc, and second-chance are all legit reasons. Happy to answer any PM questions.

my interview is for today, Multimedia in DCU and I am brickin it!

    any tips?

No need to stress. Its informal enough. Main thing is to show you have an interest and understanding of the subject you are choosing. If you can, provide a few examples to show your interest that would be great. Also remember that as a mature student, you bring a lot of life experience to the class that can help the development of the younger students.
It's not just about what you can get from the course but also what also what you bring.

    Good luck.

I had my interview for Multimedia yesterday. Definitely try to study up on your course so you look like you know you are getting into. Other than that act like you're going to a job interview. Expect question like "What skills do you possess that will make you suitable for this course?" Plus "How would you get along with attending classes with 18 year olds?"

My interview was for 2:40 but I got there so early the interviewed me earlier [That was a relief since I took the bus up from Kilkenny] The person ahead of me must have no showed.

Most 3rd Level schools make Mature Student applicants sit an interview for any course/s [for example if you happen to apply for 3 courses at DCU you would have to interview for all three] Call up Dr. Miriam Judge [she and Declan Tuite conducted the interview with me yesterday] and see what she says. There were only 5-6 Mature Applicants for the course so you might still have a chance.

Btw. Did you fill out the Supplementery Application form for the course to DCU itself? To apply for the course you had to apply through CAO and through the College. You might want to contact Admissions to find out if you can still send in their application form. Don't delay. There was only 5-6 Mature Applicants for Multimedia so they could nearly be done/ if not already done with the interviews for the course.

If they haven't started yet they probably will soon. Keep a look out in your email box. I got an email last week to tell me I was on the list for interviews for my course this week [I had it Tuesday]

Are you applying for Multimedia as well? That's what they told me in the interview [she asked me how I would mind being in classes with a bunch of 18 year olds] Hopefully if thats true we'll find out soon enough.

They didn't ask me that one. Yeah Declan was great. Dr. Judge was nice too. Hopefully that means we'll know before May is over with. Then I'll have the fun job of trying to find an apartment if I'm accepted.
