I am interested in buying an acoustic guitar to go along with the electrics I have been using for while. I have noticed these smaller or less deep shallow body guitars similar to these

Basically I'm wondering is there such thing as a quite acoustic guitar and are these smaller bodied guitars suitable. Main reason is a full dreadnought style is fairly loud and i dont want to disturb my housemates while practicing. I dont know much about acoustics as you probably guess from the above but does anything like i describe exist ?

Those guitars wont be especially quiet. I'd say a folk or concert sized guitar would make more sense, then get a soundhole cover to take the boominess out of it.

I would suggest something like a Yamaha APX or similar if you want it to be a but quieter as they have a shallower body because they are designed to be used plugged into the amp but still have a decent acoustic sound. I wouldnt really recomend the bowl back guitars, as an acoustic they sound god awful. Plastic resonance vs wood resonance is just totally different.

As far as I recall the Cort SFX guitars are the same,.

Something like a tanglewood TRD-SF or other super folk guitars might be worth looking at as they can be quieter but I would play one first to see if they are quiet enough for you.

    If all else fails...

I'd say just get a normal acoustic and go with a soundhole cover when you want to be quieter. You'd be surprised how much of a difference it makes. I don't think acoustics are really even loud enough to bother people if they are in other rooms, you'd want to be really beating out chords to get on people's nerves.
As for roundbacks, I really don't care for them that much. I find they don't sit very well on your lap.

If you use the soundhole cover as the lad above me said it should keep it fairly quiet, but I'd recommend Ovation for round back acoustic guitars!
