Dell, Komplett etc all seem to have some good deals, but just wondering if any shop in particular are good for buying laptops from. Just looking for something reliable just for general web surfing, listing to some music etc.

Budget is about 400. If I could find something with XP on it, that would be great as they aren't the best on the old computer and XP is what their "used" to.

I would steer clear of any XP machines at this stage. There isn't much of a learning curve at all with windows 7, it will still work just like XP did, with some minor differences and improvements. Even sitting down with them for 20 minutes and showing them some of the extra features would be enough.

And actually, i would go as far to say that if you just gave them a windows 7 machine they'd figure it out.

As for the two about, i'd steer clear of the one from komplett. It's got a 12.1" screen which is quite small, and it has a very poor processor. The one from elara is fine really. It'd do everything you're parents would need. The one i linked above would be better than both of those, by a considerable margin.

I've been looking into getting new laptop recently and was advised that Sony and Toshiba are pretty reliable. Battery life on Sony seems to be an issue though. Some nice Toshibas here: http://www.dabs.ie/
