Why is this so hard to find info on?

I'm living in Ireland. Can someone give me a run-down on what I need to do to start selling on eBay.

I have been buying on eBay for a while - Valid eBay and Paypal account.

What do I need to know?

What about shipping? How do I ship items? Which company should I use? How do I calculate international rates? Do I have to weigh them? Should I use a courier? etc. etc.

How do I take payments? Do eBay automatically put the money in my PayPal account? Do I have to do anything?

When the money is in my PayPal account, how do i withdraw it? Do I have to link it with a bank account? Can they put the money into my pre-paid card/debit card?

I just want someone to cover ALL the basics.

Thank you so much and if there is anything I need to know, please add it in.

I hope this thread may help other people in a similar situation to me.

And once again, thank you so very much.

Shipping - Very expensive in ireland. Eg the cheapest An Post tracked service is 5.75. You will need proof of delivery (not just proof of postage) in the event of a dispute.

Payment - If the buyer pays through paypal it will show up in your account. Sometimes this can take a few days to clear depending on the buyer's funding source. You also have other options like cash on delivery etc, depending on the item sold.

You can withdraw from paypal account to a linked irish bank account.

Why is this so hard to find info on?

It's not hard. It may seem like information overload but help sections and FAQ's on ebay.ie, PayPal.com and AnPost.ie answer the majority of the questions you've posed.

Simply weigh your items (allowing for packaging) and set your postal rates using an post postage calculator.

I occasionally sell tech items I no longer have a use for. If the item is high value, proof of delivery is wise as max says above.

If however you're selling low value items, standard postage may render your items more attractive.

you should look for a cheaper alternative to ebay.
I used it to sell something or the first time recently in about 5 years, when the commission rates seemed to be reasonable.
This time, I sold an item worth 275 euro. I was charged 32 euro by ebay for the sale which works out at like 12-13% i think. I certainly wont be using ebay to sell something again thats for sure! Thats disgraceful!

The fees take a lot of the good out of ebay and paypal which each charge fees - everything from listing fees (keep and eye out for free listing weekends every few weeks), final value fees, paypal payment fees - easily taking 10-15% of whatever you sell something for. If you want to make sure it sells for something worthwhile, set a reserve price with 10% or so added to what you want to get for it. I haven't used a courier yet, maybe try dhd or fastway to see if they're cheaper than An Post which is quite likely. Get yourself

I'm pretty sure there's a thread or few to cover each of the topics from improving listings to shipping.

    It is what it's.
