Im aware that the RX8 is pretty bad on petrol, just wondering how does it compare to the Integra DC5? Is there much of a difference?

I'd guess there's a good 10 mpg difference. No evidence to back that up though.

I know a couple of people who have owned both cars, 30+ mpg is easy to achieve in a DC5 but probably impossible in an RX-8.

Which is a faster car? Does the rx8 just waste patrol or does that extra petrol get used? They both have the same BHP

I drive an RX-8 and I can tell you, it's not as bad as what people think. Yes, it uses a fair bit of petrol. It's a rotary engine and it burns and uses petrol differently compared to a piston engine.

The DC5 would have lots more low-end torque whereas you have to rev the RX-8's engine to get the power. A characteristic of the rotary is that they don't have a lot of low-end torque.

Once you get the revs up on the 8, it's a blast that I don't think a DC5 could beat. With that said, I've never been in/drive a DC5.

nice1, its just I saw one today and it looked great. I thought it was a bit of a girls car just from pics but in the skin it looks savage. I was planning on getting a DC5 as my next car but seeing the RX today Im not 100% anymore. Especially since the last time I got an insurance quote the DC5 was 2k and the RX8 was around 1k!

Do yourself a favour and drive a DC5, I think you'll be surprised given the assumptions you've made above :)

The main thing you have to do is research both cars and drive a few of them.

I love my car and I've had it for over 3 years now but I'm no "fanboi". There's a few threads here where I have listed a few problems with the RX8. They're not bulletproof, they do drink a bit of petrol (c. 20-25 mpg), they need a fair bit of maintenance, they burn oil as part of the combustion process.

What I don't understand is why people always think that they'll get good mpg from a performance car. The reason I said "here we go again" is because a lot of people, including some who have never driven/owned an 8 like to bash it here due to the petrol thing.

If you want it, go for it and make sure it's the 231 bhp version.

A few sites that will always be of help to you:

I think the DC5 is a low-torque high-revver as well, though not quite as low on the torque and not quite as high on the revs?

The only assumption I made that I know isn't fair is that the DC5 wouldn't beat the experience of the RX8. :o

This thread is making me miss my car :(

    Agree on the above.

Honda's petrol engines are known for having next to no torque :P

You have to rev very high just to hit VTEC, and then you go further :D

A charecteristic of the Honda is that it's known for having no torque, it gets very loud at a certain rpm and then it goes bwahhh :P
Once you get the revs up on the 8, it's a blast that I don't think a DC5 could beat. With that said, I've never been in/drive a DC5.
DC5's are amazing to drive, nothing I've driven has come close to the DC5 :o

Also, OP, the K20 in the DC5 is perfect on petrol!

my choice would be the dc5 overall more reliable more tuneable among other reasons!

once your in 2litre petrol land mpg is gonna kill ya no matter what car it is and tax is steep aswell 174euro for 3months i think!

personally i wouldnt touch either for the money youd get a right well specced dc2 and some change left over;)

ive seen dc2s pull away from dc5s dc2s cheaper to run and more parts available

    k20eg is where it at:cool:

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet, DC5 would probably be one of the best handeling FWD cars you can buy, however the RX8 is one of the best handling RWD sports cars and there's a huge difference between the two on that alone rx8 even has a LSD which is great for the money you can pick one up for now.

The DC5 comes with an LSD too, as much as I love the RX8 I think the way the country is now I'd go for the DC5, simply because its less of a risk and is probably overall a better car than the RX8 to drive everyday.
