Hi , I want to buy stuff from amazon but when I go to checkout and enter my AIB maestro card number it asks me for an "issue" number or "start from" number. My card has neither of these so basically its useless online, is that right?

AIB doesn't issue Maestro cards, it's a Laser card you have. Laser is not Maestro, and cannot be used on Amazon.

    Thanks joe.

It does have a maestro emblem on the front of the card along side the laser emblem. Dont know why they would put maestro on the card if it isnt one.

Anyway thanks for the help, I suppose a credit card is the only way out of it.

Maestro takes care of using your card in an ATM machine in other countries. In the UK, Maestro also operate the debit card function, but that is not the case with Laser.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread. I am trying to buy from amazon using my AIB card. On my card it has both a Laser and Maestro emblems on it.
However amazon don't seem to accept it when I try to add it to my account.
It's annoying as I prefer to pay by debit card these days.
Is credit card the only way? Or do those cards like Blanchardstown SC prepaid cards work?

No. Both Ulster bank and PTSB have scrapped the laser cards and now use visa debit, which is accepted on nearly all ecommerce websites. Bank of Ireland are in the process of scrapping the laser card program also.

Laser cards cannot be used outside of Ireland unless you are present - some sites will use an irish based payment gateway and get around this.

And whilst blanch and dundrum etc centers don't want you to know this, yes their cards can be used anywhere credit cards are accepted.
