    :DHi Guys,

I know this thread has prob been posted about a million times but I cannot find it  I am going on a package deal to Ayia Napa and then later in the year going travelling across Thailand. Just wondering if you are aware of what would be the best/ reputable/ cheapest firm to book travel insurance through. I have private health insurance. Thanks a million

Great, thank you. Multitrip were coming up very cheap but then with all of the add ons it is very expensive. AA seem very reasonable. Its very confusing tring to understand what exactly is covered under each policy!!

Agreed. It is worth putting the time in now as opposed to reading policy wordings if you have to claim.

I think AA underwrite with AXA who are a bona fida well run insurer.

I hear the icelandic volcanoes are off again. That means I definitely need to purchase travel insurance for the 2 week holiday starting at the end of June. Given the issues last year, does anyone know if there has been any sneaky 'outs' included in current policies on offer from AA/VHI? Like a waiting period etc? Or something else that'll reduce their exposure and only come to light after you claim?

Probably the best volcano insurance deal with a guaranteed payout last year was with Paddy Power, they may offer the same market again this year.
Just place enough to cover your trip costs, I 'insured' a trip to the canaries last year for €25.

I have a yearly traveli nsurance with multitrip.com that I took out last year and is due for renewal first week in June. It seems when i took it out last year I ticked a box for automatic renewal which I didnt realise I had done. Money already gone out of my account as it seems they take it out two weeks in advance. Rang today to see if ash cloud was covered and was told no. I can add it on but it cost 34 euro and I wont be covered for June as ash cloud is already erupted.

The thing about Travel Insurance is that you don't really know how good a particular crowd are until you are stuck in an airport hundreds or thousands of miles from home. There is so much more to it than just going with the cheapest end quote, do not ignore that small print and make sure you know your entitlements.

I went with Multitrip, no issue yet but I've not had to claim so who knows eh? Would be nice if we could hear from people who have had travel problems and what companies looked after them.

This is exactly what I was talkiing about. If I purchase now and if I'm unlucky enough to get stuck due to an ash cloud eruption, am I covered if that ash cloud has already started? I'm looking for a policy I can take out now that will cover me in the event of an ash cloud disruption at the end of June. Not everything else except that. Anyone have any comments?

Hi all, I have taken out travel insurance for the last 6/7 years, and thankfully had never had to use it until this summer. My partner got ill while on a weekend away in Barcelona, and to cut a long story short, we had to stay a few more days. Turns out that the travel insurance (ACE bought through AIB) won't reimburse us for anything but the hospital fee (which I could get back through the European health Insurance card) and the medicine I had to get there. The hotel extension and new flights are not covered.

I'd advise anyone to read the policy very, very carefully to know what you can claim or not. I am not sure if there are any good travel insurance out there, but that's the way they make their money!
