    Hello Everyone,

Just a quick question. I have recently got my Bus licence D + D1 and passed all necessary CPC exams. Now I am 22, I have 2.5 years experience with driving HGV's. I dont know any bus drivers so I said I would ask here.

Are the buses the same as lorries. Do you have to be 25 to get a job for insurance reason's?? My employer had to pay around €1,500 to put me on his policy when I got my artic licence when I was 19?? That company has since gone bust and I am finding it hard to get another job because of my age.

As far as I know you need to be at least 25 before you can be insured to drive any size of bus.

Once you have passed the test and accquired the Full Licence then you're good to go.....IF you can secure insurance.

One of the fallout elements from the sudden explosion of added regulation on Vocational Driving Licence holders is the realization that recruitment of Bus and Truck drivers is now FAR more difficult than before.

The relevant industries have yet to come up with clear effective plans to address how they are going to plan for Driver recruitment going forward.

I could be wrong, but Im almost sure you need to be 23 to drive for Dublin Bus, Not sure about private operator's. Can't see Dublin bus recruiting for a few years anyway since their not finished with their cull of old timers yet. Best of luck finding work anyway.

Would not be an issue with a state company seems as they insure themselves.

Brother was driving for Bartons at around 21 or soin th 80's but it took a lot of persuasion and doing a lot of the unpopular work. Try Aircoach, they might have you doing loops of the airport until they see what you are made of.

JJKAVANAGH were advertising for new drivers recently. You had to cough up €100 or so to do a driving test before you would be considered for an interview. When I rang the number the lady said they were recruiting nationwide. About a month ago I think.
