how to check internal memory?

What's the most reliable way of checking total internal memory? I have a couple of programs telling me my 4GB device only has 1GB total disk space.

Titanium backup gives storage details on its main screen.
Some file managers tell you at the top of the screen

In My Pad it says 2.7G, in SD cards and storage it says 800MB. I'll try install titanium to get a more complete overview of what is using what.
