    Hi,

Unusual Scenario, I wonder can you help.

My wife worked fulltime pretty much from 1995 to 2008, then got made redundant late in that year, she was entitled to JSB for 12 months during this time she got pregnant and wasn't entitled to Maternity Benefit. When JSB ran out in late 2009 she was unable to claim any more benefits, so we decided to wait till the child was a year old for her to get another job. She spent around another 6 months looking for a job.

She then got a job and started work in February but she has a terrible feeling the job is not gonna last because she thinks they have cash flow issues. She reckons she will walk in one day and be basically told theres no job for her anymore.

Does anyone know how long she'll need to be back in work to claim again considering she'll be let go and not actually walk out, I presume its around a year but thats at a guess.

    Thanks for your help.

JB is paid for 12 months to those who have 260 or more paid contributions since starting in their job or for those who have less it is paid for 9 months.

She must have the following PRSI contributions:

104 paid since starting work and 39 paid or credited in the relevant tax year, (relevant tax year been 2009) or have 26 paid contributions in the relevant tax year and 26 paid in the year preceding it.....If your wife has not got 13 paid contributions in the relevant tax year the following years can be used to meet the condition.

Im not to sure what her circumstances where when she couldnt claim anymore Benefits, maybe you are working and your means would come over the limit after the disregards, but if that is not the case Jobseekers Allowance could be an option or Family Income Supplement if you are working

thanks, I earn to much, so she was only entitled to 12 months JSB. She wasnt entitled to JSA, How are the contributions measured, is that a per day rate.

I wonder had the PRSI she payed prior to 2008 ignored now because she had claimed 12 months between 08 and 09 and basically used up her contributions.

They are measured weekly, but they do take into consideration days also when adding them up. I think they can go back up to 5 years for the contributtions if you dont have enough, when your wife first claimed they would of went back on the relevant tax year, which if it was 2008 would of been 2005/06.

If not then FIS pay be an option for yourselfs, its in just the one child youse have. If so the Income limit for a faimly with one child is €506

As her Benefit ran out previously, she needs to work 13 weeks (ie pay 13 A class contributions), to requalify. She also has to satisfy the conditions for Jobseeker's Benefit this year also - so they will be looking at her record for 2009/2008. She will need 39 contributions in 2009 - this can be 39 weeks on Jobseeker's however.

13 of the 39 credits/contributions now have to be contributions.

They can be paid in 2007/2008/2009/2010 however, so she will definitely have these paid in 2008 if she was working for most of the year.
