What do you do when you can't run.

Just wondering what people do when they can't do any running, cycling , swimming. Basically I won't be able to do any exercise for the next few days and already 6 days off.

My usual habbit would have been to increas my eating and alcohol intake to a crazy level but not planning on doing it this time as I've found it doesnt improve running performance in the long term.

Hope to be back running in a few more days but going a bit mental at this point....

Do all the non running things you put on the long finger when running

    - put some extra hours in work in
    - extra time with loved ones and family
    - read a good book
    - draw up a plan for when your back
    - stretches and sit ups and general loosening of other areas you neglect

    All sorts you can do.

Stretching, strengthening, watch loads of football and go slightly insane.

Build up brownie points to be cashed at a later date.

exactly plus in work for lunch time runs, flexibility re getting out early or time in lieu if your work allows this sort of thing

Theres no sutch things as brownies points! there is only one brownie point (singular)
One Wrong move and you lose that brownie point so theres no point building up points plural cos you would just lose them all at once anyway smile.gif:D

    Give a pint of blood

I usually find I'm a bit tired and prone to light headiness for a few days after donating so dont do much training. If you hadn't planned on doing any anyway then what better time to give it.

As you know Shels, there's nothing like a good 'bitch' about it on the internet... about the insanity of it all (I agree) It really does help....

here, why don't you check out my whole 18-month blog of NO running insanity at the below link.... hang on... you know all this already and your ears are worn hearing about it ;)

So have a rant here... share the pain with those that can relate... because lets face it, we've all been out of action for a period of days/months at a time..

And do lots of stretches, strengthening (glutes) and spend time with loved ones - But I disagree on the above point on working more hours though. You'll just spend the xtra time on boards anyway ;)

When running stops, shels, the rest of life starts :)

Do all the stuff you've been putting off or that will reap benefit in future. Don't be one of these people that rely so much on running / tri that they have nothing else to do when they get injured. Varied is the spice of life, so get out there and taste it!

I've been off for the last 4 weeks with a broken clavicle. I've been hungover a lot more, spending more time with friends, reading more, studying and working more. I don't feel guilty as I know it's impossible to run, so get that thought out of your head if it's in there.

I was being serious too. :D Good way to vent your frustrations by wrecking everyone elses head. All my real life friends just tell me I run too much anyway.
