Donedeal seems to have finally sorted out the search function!

They also seem to have done it in such a way that you can still use it like before!

Its a pity searches are not title based - it would rid all the crap where sellers add **** at the bottom of their ad in order that its found in a search.

there new search has a make / model based search which removes all that crap.
when you advertise a car you have to put in more specific details on the car and the search uses this.
You can still use the old text based search which will pick up the search crap people put ie.

    .

but still part of the prob is that people dont have to put in the more specific details you refer to,they can just bypass it if they want to, and loads do.

Did a search with the added in sections and put ST in the other text box and this is one of the results due to the fact they have "St. Marys Road"

did you try putting mustang into the "All models" text box, only pulls up one car.

if people really want to sell a car they'll put in the correct details asked when entering it.

Two filters? I know its a cheap site but the cars section really does need to be able to seperate fuel type, gearbox type, body type, etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,982 ✭✭✭Caliden

If you use the menu on the left you get rid of alot of the spam, makes it a hell of alot easier to find some models although a 'free text field' would be nice to narrow down the results further

The search is still friggin' awful. You need at least five filters to get reasonable results.

We need a Carzone-like site at Donedeal prices.

Has anybody got in contact with Donedeal to see if they are going to change their crap search engine?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,706 ✭✭✭fonecrusher1

    I don't get it?!

When you select cars from the left hand side you get offered all the car makes. Then when you select a car make...lets say Honda, you get every honda in the world dumped into one search.
After you select honda you should then be offered a selection of Honda models ie; accord, civic, hrv etc etc???? Its simple. Yet they still haven't grasped this.

They nearly have it right. But its still a wee bit clumsy.

When the search results appear you can select model, just above the results.

Yeah but you have to type in the model. Also you have to type in the year in the search box. Unless you want to scan through every year of the car you want from the last 20 years.

    select car > audi

    bmw ---- I select this.

    citroen

    honda

    etc...

BMW select model > 3 series

    5 series ---- I select this

    6 series

    X5

    etc...

    5 series select year > 1990

    1991

    1992

    1993

    1994

    etc... and so on....

    The same system as carzone.^

Hi folks, I'm Donna from DoneDeal.

Thanks for all the feedback! Our search is still only in stage 2 of the upgrade. I would recommend that you search using the search options drop downs in the Cars section as this will give you the most specific results.

Here's the details on our new search plans here:
    http://blog.donedeal.ie/2011/03/search-by-car-make-and-model/

The next stage will have a new design and will have fuel type, mileage, body type, price aswell as make and model and will be launched shortly :)

Hope you like our new home page, if anyone hasn't seen it so far, you can check it by clicking the "Try it out now" link at the very top of the home page:
    http://www.donedeal.ie/donedeal/

Oh, and I forgot to say thanks for highlighting that not exactly a mustang ad! All those search words have been removed and the seller has been contacted and informed that if they use search words in the future, their ad will be removed without refund.
