According to gsm arena, Sony are supplying camera modules to apple for the next iPhone, most likely a 8mp exmor r backlit sensor. Although rumours suggest the June wwdc wil be software only it's unlikely we'll see an iPhone 5 this year, but hey we've all been wrong before!

the key point was that it came up in news that the delivery of same would be delayed
Stringer put forth that a Sony plant based in Japan had been damaged in the recent earthquake, and that the damage would delay a camera sensor part to Apple

Which likely means if it is an 8MP camera sensor, and if it is for the iPhone 5. Then the iPhone 5 will be delayed as reported.

I don't know how much difference an 8MP sensor is going to make to picture quality, tbh. You can have as many pixels as you like but the image quailty will always be restrained by the optics that will fit in an exceptionally slim device like the iPhone.

There's a reason why professionals and enthusiasts still carry large camera bodies to fit larger lenses - and not compacts - you can't argue with physics. :pac:

True dades, I agree. But its also able to record video at 720p/1080p @ 30 fps which is a little exciting. It may also have a knock on effect on the ip5 capacity, as better vids take up more space. If it's not 64gb minimum I'll be very surprised

If they do delay I reckon it will only be to late this year max to hit Christmas market.

I could see a delay of one or two months but I don't think anyone is claiming that there won't be a new iPhone this year.

Rumours abound on the usual websites that no new hardware will be announced at the wwdc in June, concentrating instead on os x lion and possibly ios5. Further rumours suggest that there may be no hardware at all in 2011, or if there is it'll be closer to Christmas.

But, these are only rumours. Only jobs knows for sure

The no hardware in 11 rumours were talking about fy2011 which ends in September and I've yet to see a source saying any later date
