Unfortunately fixed line broadband is a no-go in my apartment block so mobile broadband it is!!
Who is the best operator? I'm inclined to go with Optus or Vodafone as they are bigger companies and am figuring they will have the best coverage...right?? In terms of usage...I am hoping to watch alot of tv online so I don't mind paying extra for better service....any suggestions? I'm in perth.

Don't know if your staying in Perth or will be travelling .Vodafone is normally cheaper but coverage outside cities is awful. Optus is a little better. I was looking into it recently and virgin was cheapest. They operate from Optus network. The best would be telstra but they will be the most expensive.
I'm thinking of gettin virgin if they do run off Optus. Can't remember prices at the minute.

On another note. How fast would 1gb of data go with just browsing for maybe an hour or two per day. No youtube or downloading.

Telstra are the most established network and have the best coverage out of all of them, especially if you are going places outside the big urban centers. They are a bit more expensive however, but it's a fast reliable service.

If you're just going to be using it in Perth though, Optus/Vodaphone should be grand.

DO NOT GO WITH VODAFONE. Their network is absolutely awful down here.
I had both the wireless dongle and data service on my phone and they were
    both useless.

Check out the complaints on this website :)

    I would go with Optus.

Ha. And having worked for Optus in rural areas they don't seem so good either but as i said. If your staying in the city should be ok.
Of course you can pay top dollar for Telstra. Virgin had an offer in store today. $79 for pre said stick with 6gb of data. Expires in 100 days. Runs on Optus so would be ok in the city
