Hi guys,as the off-season is now upon us I've been thinking about investing in a nice light O/U for taking on the long trips for snipe,Woodcock and pheasant. I'm thinking I'd like a 20g cos when you do a lot of milage my old faithful Mossberg pump gets bloody heavy after a few of hours trudging up and down the hills. I also thought it would be ideal to get into clay shooting with. I'm just wondering if i'm on the right track here,my limit would be about ?600. Should I consider a semi or stick with my gut and go O/U?

My Grandfather bought a .410 and was disappointed that it was not much lighter than a 12g.

The shorter the barrels the lighter the gun, some semi's are lighter than o/u

the 20g is milder on the shoulder, but so too is a Semi in 12g.

When I buy something, I always think would I be able to sell it down the road!
    You'll always sell a 12g faster than a 20g

I cant say much about a 20g but I can give you my info, I have a Lanber 2077. Very light gun and lots of people have complimented on how light it is (6.2lbs) and how nice it is to shoot with. Have had a nice few offers on it but refused. One of the lads that complimented shoots a Beretta Ultralight, but now wants the same as mine.

Also if your budget was more you could have a look at the new Beretta Explor light, fine semi and would suit your long walks. and will sell on later without a doubt

i know a guy that has a 20ga beretta urika 391, and the thing is as light as a straw, you wouldnt know you were carrying it and it'll kill just as good as any 12ga

In all honesty lads,if I came home with a Beretta I might as well chop off my own nuts, gift wrap them and hand them over to the wife! Way out of my price range unfortunatly :(

there are a lot of second hand shotguns out there at the moment, you'd be surprised at the deals you can get if you go looking. i saw a benelli semi auto in stakelums recently, in immaculate condition for about 700

Try looking at the Benelli Beccaccia semi auto. its very light and compact 24" barrel. originally designed for woodcock. it will take shells from 26gr to 56gr with no issues. Have one for the last 3 years now best gun i ever bought.

i wouldnt hesitate to buy a 20bore. im selling a benelli auto 20bore for a friend here. if i had the space in the safe i would buy it myself.
it is ultra light, mounts so easily and there is no recoil.
selling as he wants a rifle.

as tack said they can be hard to sell as they arent that popular, Yet.
