this is on at 20:00 on National Geographic tonight

    DESCRIPTION
Like most of the world's urban areas, the fair city of Dublin is not immune to organised crime as shown in the UK premiere of Underworld: Dublin Gangland on Monday 4 April at 8pm.
While the streets of the Irish capital eventually proved just as susceptible to the influence of hardened crooks as anywhere else, amazingly the city was largely free of serious crime up until the late 1960s. And when the Troubles started in Northern Ireland that all changed.
In Underworld: Dublin Gangland, discover how paramilitary gangs saw the city as an easy way of funding their conflict. And where the terrorists went, other criminals soon followed, taking Dublin from armed robberies to kidnappings and bombings.
Following the history of this Irish crime wave, trace the 1980s introduction of hard drugs into the city's impoverished estates, hear about the desperate - and tragic - attempts to stop the heroin dealers taking over whole neighbourhoods and then learn how the Dunne Family - Dublin's notorious criminal dynasty - moved from petty crime to become drug lords.
This one-off special also looks at the case of journalist Veronica Guerin whose desperate attempts to unmask the criminal gangs led to her death in 1996.

heres hoping that show gives an honest account of gangland criminality all over dublin - west, south, east and north.
it will be a shame if it just concentrates on one area
