Forgot to put claim on Insurance Application

I had a small claim just over 4 years ago. I mistakenly thought it was over 5 years ago so didn't disclose it when applying for a new policy. When I got my proof of no claims it was mentioned on it so the new insurance company decided to cancel my new policy.

I thought this was very unfair as it was a simple mistake that anybody could make. The are refusing to even discuss the matter.

Where does this leave me? Should I just go elsewhere. The worst thing was the amount of the claim wouldn't have affected my policy amount at all.

I don't agree this is unfair, but I guess it's not what you are asking about.

Next step; call other companies and admit your mistake. You have to disclose it (both the claim AND the mistake) in other applications I'm afraid.

I have little OT question, but it's related.

Over last 2 years I had two windscreen claims.
If I'll be looking for insurance at my next renewal date, and getting quotes from different companies, should I answer "yes" to question: did you have any claims in last x years?

Are you suggesting I might have issues with the other insurance companies as well? God I'm really kicking myself over such a silly mistake.

Try a few more companies, they're the only ones that can tell you for sure.

All insurers will ask if you have ever had a policy cancelled so yes, you'll then have to explain why .

    I've never been asked that.

I have, however, been asked dozens of times if I've ever been refused insurance.

Yes mention it. It may not make any difference to your premium though, so better to be safe than sorry.

Your policy will now be voidable at the option of the insurance company. Suggest that you sort it out sharpest as they would likely use it to limit their lability in the event of a claim. Did you organise directly or through an intermediary/broker. You need to remedy the non disconnect and hopefully also get them to continue cover. You would not wish to complicate future applications with a policy cancellation.

No do not put windscreen claims on your policy. They are covered foc within most policys sold. (check this was the case with the last policys)

But no if you tick yes its an unnecessary explanation of something that wasnt a real claim in the first place. So no.

It looks like I'm in trouble now.

Last year I got renewal quote, which was more than a year before.
I called and asked why was it so much, and they explained that prices has gone up, and they can lower it by 5% but no more.
So I actually went through their online quote system, entered my details, and was quoted less than over the phone, and even less than year before.

So I rang them again, told them that through their online quote system I got better quote, so she told me that's quote common thing, as they are not allowed to go as low as online system, and advised me to buy it online, and after I do it, she will convert it so it's not new policy, but just a renewal.
That's exactly what I did. I was about 9 months ago.

Now I realised, that in their online system there are assumptions, that I had to accept, and one of this assumptions is as follows:
Have driving records free from accidents, claims and convictions in the last 5 years and have no pending prosecutions.

I only realised now, that I shouldn't have accepted it, as I had a windscreen claim few months before renewal.

Any advice what should I do now?

Does it mean that I was uninsured for last 9 months, and I travelled over 25k all over Europe without insurance? I actually had another windscreen claim few months back, and it was sorted for me without any trouble.

my lord your working yourself into a tizzy. No just no, windscreen 'claims' are not treated as a conventional 'claim' so calm down and accept the policy if it suits the cost.

I'll bet you have been asked that as it's industry standard:
have you ever been declined car insurace, had a policy cancelled or...

Have a look at insurers' proposal/quote conditions online, Quinn, Axa etc., it's there on all of them ;).

they've already cancelled it, they werent interested in discussing the matter.

Most insurance companies have a no claims in the last 5 years policy. so it was this that cancelled the policy more so than the original omission of the fact. So they would not have entertained the quote at the start if you told them that it was 4 years ago.

Put it down to experience and move on to get another quote elsewhere.
