    Hi guys,
looking for your assistance. i travel approx 30 kms a day by bicycle(hybrid bike weighs about 18kg). I have been making this commute for the pastyear and have decided to upgrade to a racer. At times i can suffer from a bad back(only in my mid twenties). Any one have any recommendations for a road bike with a good seating position for my first one. I have approx 1000.00 euros to spend.

    Any ideas/suggestion would be appreciated.
    thanks

Most entry level road bikes are designed with a more relaxed seating position than top end race bikes. They'll still be lower at the front than most hybrids, but as long as you get the right frame size and set up you should find it fairly comforable. What you are looking for would be a "sportive" or "audax" bike as opposed to an out-and-out race bike.

    Hi,

I just bought a Felt Z100 and find it very nice so far. I did a leisurely 40km this afternoon and was hitting 40 kmh on the way home on the flat, and surprisingly easily too.

I got my hybrid up to 30 kmh once and it nearly killed me.

I think you should get the next model up, the Z85 for inside your budget.

There really is no contest, road bike all the way and I'm only a new convert.

I bought the hybrid in the first place because I couldn't make up my mind between a road bike or MTB so I settled on the hybrid as the best of both worlds. I couldn't have been more wrong. No use off road, except the odd gravel lane and very heavy and slow on the road.

Somebody made the point to me that hybrids are very unsociable bikes as they're too slow to go on a group road spin and you can't bring them MTB'ing either so you'll end up cycling on your own all the time.

Couldn't agree with u more bout the hybrid! Like u was looking for the best of both and think I should have went for one or other. Is the felt z85 the next one up from IRS? What's the riding position like?

Felt have three separate road bike ranges.

The Z series is for sportive/leisure riding.

The F series is serious racing.

The AR series is the aerodynamic model.

The smaller the number the lower the spec i.e. the Z100 is the basic sportive model while the Z2 is the top of the range sportive model.

    More details here
    http://www.feltbicycles.com/International/2011/Road/Z-Series.aspx

As for riding position, the shop spent a good half hour with me, setting the handlebars, saddle position etc and I find it surprisingly comfortable, more so than I ever expected it to be.
