Advice on hearing consult

Just looking for a quick bit of advice.

I have been deaf in one ear since I was about 2 or 3 and despite having multiple tests and consultancies at the time, the decision was made not to do anything about it until I was old enough to decide what course of action I wanted to take.

Some 20 years later, I'm now looking at what my options are. Now obviously to do this I'm going to need to talk to a consultant and go over everything with them. My question is, can I just book an appointment with a relevant consultant (audiologist?), and if so can anyone recommend a hospital/clinic that I could try, or whether I need to get a referral letter from my GP.

I have pretty comprehensive health insurance, so if possible I would like to go private on this, but at the same time, if I can cut out the need to visit the GP and pay €50 for the sake of a letter I will.

    Thanks in advance.

Beaumont and Temple Street have audiology depts.
I'd advise checking hospital websites as they may tell you about referral routes etc. Also you could give the department a call and if it's a different hospital you need I'm sure they would be able to point you in the right direction.
    Good luck!

Most hospitals would have ENT outpatients, however due to the two tier "healthcare" system we have, the waiting list for public patients is quite long.

You need to get a referral from your GP, and then wait....
