Advice needed on new car

    Guys,

I'm not very knowledgeable about cars so I need some advice.

I may be getting a new car soon (currently I drive a 06 fiesta). I've recently changed job and am doing a lot more dirving than previously (from Cork city to Clonakilty 5 days a week to and back).

Obviously my big concern is fuel economy. I looked into hybrid cars but found out that because it is mostly open road they would not save me much money.

Then I realised I should go diesel. I was looking at Volkswagen (maybe a Passat) and read abouty the BlueMotion technology and their claims that it performs better than the Prius in terms of fuel economy. If this is true sounds like it could be a good candidate.

I would greatly appreciate as many comments, opinions or recomendations as possible.

    Thanks in advance.

A Skoda Superb would be a cheaper option to the Passat. Nicer looking car too if you ask me.

Thanks for the advice. I'm mostly looking for poples opinions on this bluemotion or recomendations for a car with good fuel economy.

There's a MPG (miles per gallon) thread already somewhere in this forum. You can have a read through that and see what MPGs people have reported.

    From another forum
    Another that mentions BlueMotion

Whats your budget? Greenline is Skodas version of Bluemotion. The Passat and Superb are very closely related under the skin.

Ford have a new 1.6 diesel due in the Mondeo soon too which might be worth a look if you want economy in that size of car.

Ah come on, the superb isn't a good looking car. It shines in other areas, but the styling is all over the shop.

never said it was a good looking car,Just sid I felt it was a better looking car than the passat with its Venetian blind instead of a front grill :o

Not knowing the roads in that area, would it be mainly high (motorway) speed, or dual carriageway?

My journey is mainly Motorway and I tend to get better MPG from a larger (2.0 opposed to 1.6) diesel engine, and it's also a much nicer journey with the extra power under your foot.

Haven't driven the new 6 speed Passat 1.6Tdi Bluemotion, but had a couple of weeks in the old model 5 speed. Got better fuel economy from a Superb 2.0Tdi 170ps. Economy drops off at an alarming rate on the old Passat 1.6Tdi when you get over 100km/h.
