    Hi,
Which one of these should I go for

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-42LD450-42-inch-Widescreen-Freeview/dp/B003H1048C/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1301921419&sr=8-1

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-42LD490-Widescreen-Internet-Freeview/dp/B0043M669U/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1301921419&sr=8-2

One has freeview and the other freeview HD - is this even relevant to me as I'm based in the midlands. Which will work for Saorview? and is the Internet TV worth having?

    Thanks

Freeview will not work with Saorview, for that you need Freeview HD.

Freeview will not work with Saorview, for that you need Freeview HD.

Both will actually work- The LG 42LD450 will work here even though it's not FreeviewHD, it has MPEG4 and is certified for TNT HD the french DTT service.

Interesting thread here, The LG 42LD490 seems to have some compatibility issues - a problem with the daylight saving . It might be an issue if you are getting UK Freeview and Saorview signals together on the one TV.

    Thanks for that.

I was all set to go with the LG 42LD490 until I read that thread so I then decided to post my original question.

Maybe I'll save the 40 or so pounds and have less compatibility issues with the 450.

Go with the pan-European 42LD450 version. View single post on subject by Watty here .

thats what is confusing and the reason I started this thread - because I read that thread whilst searching for an answer.

Watty says - "LG **LD490 is for UK ONLY Freeview HD. Unlike a "pure" UK only "Freeview" TV, it will receive Saorview,"

First it says it is for only freeview and then says it will receive Saorview - am I reading this wrong??

    thanks!

Slightly OT, if you plan on ordering either from Amazon, you might be disappointed.

If you are referring to the item not being able to be shipped to ROI then why not say that?

They ship the 37inch to ROI but not the 42inch, just as well my shipping address is in Tyrone.

I have the LG 42LD490 and it has a number of compatibility issues. Unless you are ever likely to get UK Freeview HD, get the LD450.

    The 490 has issues with
    1. Time - it messes up the EPG in summer time.
    2. LCN - it does not use the RTE NL channel numbers.
    3. It does not give Teletext on TV3 and TG4.

There may be other surprises to be discovered as RTE NL roll out more 'features'.

Buy a Certified Walker, Sony or Samsung.

But if you *MUST* buy an LG, the xxLD450 (no Freeview HD) is far more compatible than the "Freeview HD" xxLD490.

"pure UK only" Freeview = Doesn't work at all on Saorview
"pan European model with MPEG4" and "Freeview" = Might work (The LG xxLD450 works well).

"pure UK only" "Freeview HD" = Will receive Saorview, but issues with Subtitles, Channel numbering, Teletext, Daylight Savings Time (all depending on model, the LG xxLD490 has all these issues).

"pan European model" and "Freeview HD" = Usually works fine.

Only Saorview certified models can guarenteed to be OK. Most will also receive "Freeview", only ones with "DVB-T2" can receive "Freeview HD".

Amazon are alleged to now supply Ireland. Check local shops though.

No need to be snotty, I wouldn't consider Tyrone "the midlands".

    Neither would I.

Thanks for all the other replies, I'll do another bit of rooting around and hopefully make a purchase later in the week.

Lots of people live in Ireland but can get things delivered to N.I. Addresses. It's not unusual.

Freeview HD may well work in the midlands by next year, as far south as the M6 motorway or so with the right aerial

I'm hoping it will get as far as Ballsbridge!:)

I think I have two chances.
